New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament began today with a stormy start anticipated as the opposition readies to confront the NDA-led government on key issues such as the Adani Group controversy and the ongoing Manipur crisis. The government has listed 15 bills for discussion during the session, including a proposal to amend the Waqf Act and five new legislative introductions.

Bills on the Table

Among the 15 bills slated for discussion are amendments to existing laws and new initiatives aimed at addressing contemporary legal and social challenges. The Waqf Act amendment, in particular, is expected to draw attention. Other bills cover various domains, signaling a packed legislative agenda for the nearly month-long session.

Opposition’s Strategy

The I.N.D.I.A bloc, comprising parties like Congress, CPI, CPI(M), Trinamool Congress, AAP, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, and SP, is coordinating its efforts to present a united front. A pre-session meeting of the bloc’s floor leaders, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, was held this morning at his Parliament office. Sources indicate that the opposition intends to formulate a comprehensive strategy to challenge the government’s stance on socio-economic and political matters.

Government Appeals for Cooperation

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired an all-party meeting on Sunday, urging leaders to ensure smooth functioning of both Houses. Over 42 leaders and floor managers from various parties participated, emphasizing the need for constructive discussions. The government has also appealed for bipartisan cooperation to address national priorities during this session.

Key Issues and Expected Debates

While the legislative agenda is extensive, the opposition is set to raise sharp questions on:

  • The alleged lack of transparency in Adani Group dealings.
  • The deteriorating situation in Manipur.
  • Economic challenges and social justice matters.

The Parliament is poised for intense debates as both sides prepare for a session filled with critical discussions and political maneuvering.
