Commission Takes Suo Moto Cognizance of Viral Video, Seeks Detailed Report within Four Weeks
Hyderabad :- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped in, issuing a notice to the Telangana government following a disturbing incident in which lady police officials were captured dragging a girl student by her hair. The incident unfolded during a student protest against a government order related to land allocation for a new High Court complex.
The NHRC, taking suo moto cognizance of a media report featuring a viral video of the incident in Ranga Reddy district on January 24, has demanded a comprehensive report from the state government within four weeks. The notice also requires details on the action taken against the involved police officials.
Expressing concern over the apparent violation of the human rights of the victim girl, the NHRC highlighted the seriousness of the matter. The Commission has directed the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to submit detailed reports, encompassing the incident’s particulars, action taken, and the health status of the victim girl.
The incident has triggered public outcry as the video circulated widely on social media, prompting the NHRC to intervene. The students were reportedly protesting a government order that involved allocating 100 acres of land from the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) for the construction of the new High Court complex.
As the investigation unfolds, the NHRC’s involvement underscores the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the importance of upholding human rights standards, even in the context of public protests.
