“Empowering Women to Lead the Dawn of Change: GIO’s Inspiring Call at Mashal 2024”

Hyderabad: The historic Exhibition Grounds in Hyderabad came alive on Friday with the opening of ‘Mashal 2024,’ a three-day festival organized by the Girls Islamic Organization (GIO). The event witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of women from all age groups, drawn by its unique blend of modest entertainment and cultural enrichment.

Unlike conventional fests marked by loud music and extravagant displays, Mashal 2024 offered a serene and meaningful experience rooted in Islamic values. The event welcomed women from all faiths, fostering inclusivity while presenting an alternative to the Westernized entertainment culture.

Theme of Empowerment

Centered on the theme, “Ye Subha Hum Hi Se Ayegi, Wo Subha Hum Hi Layenge” (We are the dawn; we will bring the dawn), the festival served as a rallying cry for women to embrace their roles as changemakers. Speaking about the initiative, Asfia Anam, City President of GIO, said, “Mashal promotes halal and wholesome entertainment, encouraging young women to engage in activities that align with our values.”

Since its inception in 2006, GIO has organized events aimed at empowering women and fostering self-awareness. “Mashal is more than a fest—it’s a movement to inspire creativity, self-confidence, and resilience in an ever-changing world,” said Faizunnisa, one of the event coordinators.

A Blend of Creativity and Spirituality

The first day of the festival was marked by vibrant competitions such as talent treasure, open mic, tarana, archery, calligraphy, and Qirat recitations. The event provided a platform for young Muslim women to showcase their creativity. Highlights included paintings, calligraphy, and bait-bazi—a traditional poetic exchange that celebrated linguistic artistry and intellect.

Participants were also drawn to the ‘mystery walk,’ a reflective journey through themed zones representing aspects like patience, resilience, and gratitude. Symbolic sections on paradise (Jannat) and hell (Jahannum) added a spiritual dimension to the activity. “It was an eye-opener, making us reflect on our inner selves,” remarked Ayesha, a college student.

Inspiring Speeches and Thought-Provoking Panels

Prominent speakers like Mrs. Nazeerul Hasan, Dr. Nazneen Sadat, Sumaiya Rasool Khan, and Maria Arif inaugurated the activities and delivered talks encouraging leadership and social responsibility among women. Panel discussions on education, personality development, and community service are lined up for the coming days, providing intellectual engagement for attendees.

Celebration of Sisterhood

The festival also featured fun activities and games, strengthening bonds among participants. A ‘food fusion’ corner offered a variety of dishes, while the joyous atmosphere fostered friendships. “It’s amazing to connect with like-minded women in such a supportive environment,” shared Safiya, an attendee.

A Legacy of Empowerment

Mashal 2024 is not just a festival—it’s a movement celebrating identity, intellect, and sisterhood. With nearly 6,000 women in attendance, the event has set a new benchmark for women-centric initiatives in Hyderabad. As the festival progresses, it promises to leave participants with not just cherished memories but also a renewed sense of purpose and self-worth.
