Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on illegal activities, the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force raided a brothel being run by Ugandan nationals from a flat in Tarnaka on Saturday night. Two women from Uganda, identified as Nayebare Doreen (42) and Komuhangi Ritah (22), were apprehended for allegedly organizing the racket. A local customer who was availing their services was also detained.

According to DCP Task Force YVS Sudheendra, the operation was initiated following a tip-off about suspicious activities in a house located at Nagarjuna Nagar, Tarnaka. Investigations revealed that the duo had been operating the racket for the past four months, targeting customers through the classified advertising website ‘Locanto.’ The women posted their phone numbers online to solicit customers, charging between ₹4,000 and ₹10,000 for their services.

The arrested individuals, along with the local customer, were handed over to the Osmania University Police Station for further legal action. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law.

Past Cases of Similar Rackets in Hyderabad

This is not the first time that international gangs have been found operating illegal activities in Hyderabad.

  • May 2023: The police raided a similar brothel in Banjara Hills, where women from Kenya and Tanzania were found involved in prostitution. The gang had employed similar tactics, using social media and classified platforms to lure customers.
  • March 2023: A racket involving Bangladeshi nationals was unearthed in the old city. Women were trafficked into India and forced into prostitution, with agents using encrypted messaging apps to communicate with customers.
  • September 2022: Police busted a high-profile prostitution ring in Jubilee Hills, involving foreign nationals and several local brokers.

Action Plan and Public Safety

The Hyderabad police have intensified their efforts to curb illegal activities and human trafficking in the city. Special Task Force teams are actively monitoring online platforms like Locanto and Quikr, which have become a medium for such crimes.

Residents are urged to report suspicious activities in their localities to assist law enforcement in curbing such rackets. The police also plan to work closely with embassies to ensure that international offenders are dealt with according to the law and deported if necessary.
