Hyderabad : In a thrilling turn of events, the Komaravelly sisters from Udbhav School Rasoolpura, Hyderabad, have taken the lead in the State Sub Junior Championships at Hussain Sagar. Deekshita Komaravelly, currently ranked as India’s No. 1, overtook her younger sister Lahiri with a hat trick, securing the overall first position.
Both sisters are tied at 17 points, but Deekshita edges ahead by just one point after considering the discard allowed after 7 races. The closely contested competition sets the stage for a day of reckoning tomorrow, as the sibling rivalry intensifies.
Notably, Bindu Rathlawath from Shaikpet Govt School, representing Mahbubnagar district, is positioned as the third top girl, poised to secure her first bronze medal at a State Championship.
In the boys’ category, Banny Bongur of Vikarabad is leading, closely followed by Vinod Dandu of Mahbubnagar, holding the overall third and fourth positions, respectively.
Despite light winds at 5 to 6 knots, the Junior category sailing the Lasers completed 3 races. Junior National Champion Vaishnavi showcased her prowess by dominating the fleet with two clear wins, outclassing all the boys by a significant margin.
Dadi Bhote, the President of the State Sailing Association, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “With 59 entries, this is one of the largest State Regattas in Telangana.”
The final day of the regatta is set for tomorrow, culminating in the grand prize giving ceremony at 5 pm at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.
