Hyderabad, September 8: The Hyderabad District Revenue and Administration Authority (HYDRAA) has resumed its large-scale demolition drive against unauthorized constructions across the city and its outskirts after a brief pause due to heavy rainfall. On Sunday morning, teams targeted structures that encroached upon Full Tank Level (FTL) zones and buffer areas surrounding key water bodies.

The demolition operations were reported at multiple sites, including Mallampet Cheruvu in Dundigal, Sunam Cheruvu in Madhapur, and Ameenpur Lake in Sangareddy district. These areas have witnessed rampant illegal construction, prompting HYDRAA to take swift action.

The ongoing exercise is being executed in collaboration with the Revenue, Irrigation, and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) departments, with police providing security and maintaining law and order. The operations aim to clear hundreds of unauthorized structures that have mushroomed in the FTL zones and buffer areas of lakes, threatening the water bodies’ sustainability and flood management capabilities.

Over the years, HYDRAA has conducted several such drives, particularly focusing on reclaiming water bodies and removing encroachments that hinder their natural flow. In the last five years, HYDRAA has demolished over 1,000 unauthorized constructions in various parts of Hyderabad and its outskirts, restoring crucial water tanks and preventing further environmental degradation.

Sunday’s exercise is part of a broader initiative to preserve the city’s lakes, ensuring their protection from encroachments that disrupt the urban ecosystem. Authorities have stated that similar actions will continue in other areas where illegal constructions have been identified.
