“Dalit Sthree Sakthi (DSS) Concludes 16 Days of Activism with Human Rights Seminar”

Hyderabad : On the eve of Human Rights Day, Dalit Sthree Sakthi (DSS) marked the conclusion of its “16 Days Activism” campaign with a seminar held at the Ambedkar Resource Centre in Samrat Commercial Complex, Hyderabad. The seminar, titled “Human Rights – One Step Forward and Two Steps Backward,” aimed to shed light on the human rights situation and the prevailing negative trends in human rights protection.

Chaired by Ms. Jhansi Geddam, the seminar brought together notable speakers, including Sri. Vinod Kumar, Ambassador; Sri. PSN Murthy, Retd. IDAS; Sri. Venkata Reddy, National Coordinator, MV Foundation; Sri. Sasi Kala, Regional Manager, SBI; Sri. Sadiq Ali, Advocate; Sri. Siddoji Rao, Convener, IAS/IPS Officers Forum; and Sri. Sobha, Professor, among others. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from Women Collective leaders of DSS from various villages and women from Hyderabad.

Ms. Jhansi Geddam, in her opening address, emphasized the significance of the UN gender campaign and highlighted DSS’s extensive efforts in conducting meetings, round table conferences, legal clinics, and awareness sessions across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as part of the 16 Days Activism.

Sri. Vinod Kumar commended DSS for its continuous commitment to protecting the human rights of Dalit/Adivasi women. Drawing inspiration from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he stressed the importance of questioning rulers to safeguard human rights.

Sri. PSN Murthy underscored the intertwined nature of human rights with daily life, emphasizing the Right to Life as the foundational right. Other speakers echoed the sentiment, asserting that human rights are fundamental for individual and societal growth.

The event concluded with a unanimous call for the continued protection and promotion of human rights, with appreciation for DSS’s persistent efforts in championing the rights of Dalit/Adivasi women and girl children.
