Hyderabad: Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari reaffirmed on Tuesday that there is no cause for concern regarding drinking water availability during the current summer season, as the three main reservoirs in the state boast sufficient water levels.
Addressing district Collectors and senior officials via video conference on drinking water supply, the Chief Secretary dismissed speculations attempting to project a water shortage in Telangana, despite challenges faced by other states.
“Despite below-average rainfall, the water levels in key reservoirs like SRSP, Sripada Yellampalli, and Nagarjunasagar remain consistent with last year,” stated Santhi Kumari. She urged Collectors to remain vigilant and ensure alternative arrangements where necessary.
Acknowledging administrative deficiencies in some municipalities and villages, Santhi Kumari emphasized prompt resolution and urged Collectors to address water-related concerns highlighted in media reports.
Looking ahead, the Chief Secretary outlined plans for emergency pumping from the reservoirs after the second week of April. While Hyderabad enjoys sufficient water supply, increased demand due to commercial activities remains a challenge, according to Water Board officials.
Assuring proactive measures, Santhi Kumari highlighted the implementation of a Summer Action Plan and the allocation of funds to districts to mitigate drinking water issues. She called upon Collectors to rectify management errors swiftly and prioritize uninterrupted water supply.
