Rampur: The administration has once again taken action against the influential senior leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and former minister, Azam Khan. According to media reports, a bulldozer has started demolishing Azam Khan’s Humsafar Resort. On Tuesday, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) arrived with a JCB machine and began demolishing the walls and buildings constructed on ‘government land.’
The SP leader has been under scrutiny for several years and is currently in jail. This administrative action has caused chaos in the area. The operation was expedited following a complaint by the city’s Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Akash Saxena, who had recently sent a reminder letter calling for action. The administration promptly initiated the demolition.
In response, SP’s state secretary, Omendra Chauhan, expressed displeasure over the action. The district administration had filed a case in the court of the Tehsildar President, claiming that the resort occupies 0.038 hectares of land designated for manure pits, under plot number 164. A court-ordered survey confirmed that the land was indeed for manure pits, leading to a court order to remove the illegal encroachments and recover compensation. However, the process had slowed down.
After Akash Saxena expressed his dissatisfaction with the pace of the action and sent a reminder to the tehsil administration, the administration became active. In compliance with the court order, the administrative team arrived at Humsafar Resort with a JCB and began the removal process. The illegal structures and encroachments were dismantled with the help of the JCB.
