In a recent announcement, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati declared that her party will contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections independently. Despite the alliances forming around the INDIA bloc and the BJP-led NDA, Mayawati emphasized the BSP’s decision to go solo.

Celebrating her 68th birthday on Monday, Mayawati, the former 18th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, asserted her continued commitment to politics, dismissing any retirement plans.

Citing past unfavorable experiences with alliances, Mayawati stated, “Our party will fight the elections all alone.” She suggested openness to post-election collaborations but highlighted the BSP’s historical reluctance towards alliances.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh extended birthday wishes to Mayawati via a tweet on microblogging site X, reinforcing political interactions amid the approaching elections.

Mayawati’s leadership in Uttar Pradesh has garnered mixed reactions. While many Dalits view her as an icon, referring to her as Behen-ji, her fundraising efforts and birthday celebrations receive praise. Simultaneously, critiques question the rise in personal and party wealth, alleging corruption.

Rajnath Singh’s tweet read, “Called former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Ms. @Mayawatiji and congratulated her on her birthday. I wish her good health and long life.”
