Supreme Court Urged to Take Suo Moto Notice of Escalating Stray Dog Attacks

Supreme court of India building in New Delhi, India.

New Delhi, – The Supreme Court received a fervent plea on Monday to take cognizance of the mounting issue of street dog attacks, following the attention drawn by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud to the injury suffered by a lawyer attacked by stray dogs.

In a courtroom presided over by a bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and Manoj Misra, concerns were expressed, and inquiries were made regarding the lawyer’s well-being and need for immediate medical attention.

The lawyer assured the bench of his well-being but narrated an incident where he was assailed by a group of five dogs during his morning walk in his neighborhood, resulting in an injury to his hand.

During a brief conversation, CJI Chandrachud recalled a similar incident from two years ago when one of his law clerks was attacked by street dogs while parking his car.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta brought up a viral video from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, where a 14-year-old boy, allegedly bitten by a neighbor’s dog a month ago, concealed the incident from his family and ultimately succumbed to the consequences.

Senior Advocate Vijay Hansaria, present during the Chief Justice’s courtroom proceedings, urged the apex court to take suo moto notice of this growing menace to ensure the safety of citizens.

It is worth noting that a batch of petitions related to street dogs is currently pending for consideration before another bench of the Supreme Court.

Recently, the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights filed an intervention application before the apex court, seeking directives for state authorities to capture and euthanize suspected rabid and highly dangerous dogs, as well as demanding strict actions against irresponsible abandonment.

Mr. Modi saying to Mr. Biden — “Na Press Conference karoonga, Na karne doonga” :Jairam Ramesh on x

During the 18th G20 Summit held in New Delhi under India’s presidency from September 9-10, US President Joe Biden took the opportunity to discuss pressing issues related to human rights and press freedom in his bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I emphasized the paramount importance of upholding human rights, supporting the indispensable role of civil society, and preserving a free press while jointly striving towards a robust and prosperous nation with Mr. Modi. We accomplished substantial and meaningful work together,” President Biden declared during a press conference held in Vietnam.

Notably, after the conclusion of the G20 Summit in New Delhi, President Biden did not conduct a press conference in India; instead, official statements were issued.

In response to President Biden’s press conference and his comments in Vietnam, the opposition Congress party took the opportunity to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not holding a press conference.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh conveyed his perspective via Twitter, drawing attention to the memorable words used during the exchange between Mr. Modi and Mr. Biden: “Na Press Conference karoonga, Na karne doonga,”
“I will not hold a press conference, nor will I let you hold one.”
“Mr. Modi’s refusal to conduct a press conference,” remarked Jairam Ramesh, “has not had any impact. Mr. Biden is echoing the same sentiments in Vietnam as he conveyed face-to-face to Mr. Modi in India—emphasizing the importance of respecting human rights, the role of civil society, and a free press.”

Previously, Jairam Ramesh had alleged that the Indian government did not permit reporters to pose questions to PM Modi and President Biden after their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 India Summit, despite repeated requests.

“President Biden’s team has indicated that despite numerous requests, India did not grant permission for the media to ask questions to him and Prime Minister Modi following their bilateral interaction,” Ramesh noted. “President Biden will now entertain inquiries from the accompanying media in Vietnam on September 11th. This development is not surprising and reflects a certain approach to democracy, characteristic of Modi-style governance.”

The discussions between President Biden and Prime Minister Modi have garnered significant attention due to their focus on critical issues concerning human rights and press freedom, eliciting responses both within India and on the global stage.

Diplomacy, Oil, and Faith: A Pivotal Encounter Between King Faisal and Henry Kissinger

Returning to a historical event: In October 1973, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia made a significant decision to cut off oil supplies to Western countries. During this time, he famously remarked, “We and our ancestors survived in the desert on dates and milk, and we are willing to return to them again if we have to.”

On that pivotal day, Henry Kissinger, the United States’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited King Faisal in Jeddah in an attempt to persuade him to reconsider cutting off oil supplies to America. In his memoirs, Kissinger noted that he found King Faisal in a somber mood. In an attempt to lighten the atmosphere, Kissinger made a jest, saying, “My plane ran out of oil, so will your majesty order it to get supplied with oil, and we are ready to pay at international rates?”

However, King Faisal didn’t respond with laughter. Instead, he raised his head and looked at Kissinger, expressing a heartfelt desire: “And I am an old man who wishes to pray in Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, Palestine, before I die. Will you help me fulfill this wish?”

This historical episode remains a significant moment in global diplomacy and energy politics. #KingShahFaisal #WorldNews #AkaiNewsIndia

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Charts Ambitious Expansion Plan in Maharashtra After Special Session of Parliament

0

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, is poised for a significant political push in Maharashtra, riding on the wave of its ‘Ab Ki Bar Kisan Sarkar’ slogan gaining immense popularity. Party insiders reveal that a slew of massive public meetings, membership drives, and strategic activities are on the horizon following the upcoming special session of Parliament.

Sources within the party indicate that K Chandrashekhar Rao is contemplating a strategic shift, opting to hold public gatherings in each district headquarters, instead of covering every Assembly constituency. The plan includes a series of 30 public meetings across 36 districts of Maharashtra before the Lok Sabha poll schedule is officially announced.

The BRS is already basking in the glory of a membership roster that boasts 20 lakh office bearers, and it is expected to further bolster its ranks with an additional 30 lakh members anticipated to join by the end of this month.

A senior party official stated, “The appointment of party office bearers at the State and district level is nearly complete. Subsequently, the party leadership is expected to orchestrate these high-impact public meetings.”

Recent reports reveal that the Chief Minister convened a crucial meeting with the party’s Maharashtra leadership, including key figures like K Vamshidhar Rao, Manik Kadam, Shankar Anna Dhondge, Baburao Rathod, Bhagirath Balke, and other regional coordinators and senior leaders. The agenda reportedly revolved around the party’s meticulous action plan for Maharashtra in preparation for the Lok Sabha elections slated for April and May.

Notably, on August 30, Finance and Health Minister Harish Rao actively participated in the Markandeya Rathotsava organized by the Padmashali community in Solapur. Subsequently, inspection visits were made to venues at Balkot and Eidgah grounds for a large-scale public gathering in Solapur. The groundwork being laid, BRS leaders in Solapur are set to engage with the Chief Minister to finalize the meeting’s date.

The allure of the ‘Ab Ki Bar Kisan Sarkar’ slogan and the desire for the Telangana model’s implementation in Maharashtra have prompted Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao to actively connect with the state’s populace. This unique appeal is drawing the attention of political leaders and activists from a wide spectrum of parties, including Congress, BJP, NCP, Shiv Sena, and AAP, towards the BRS in Maharashtra. Additionally, influential social service organizations, like the Shetkari Sangathan, are aligning themselves with the BRS. As the party continues to surge in popularity and demand, it gears up for extensive activities across the state.

US Open 2023: Novak Djokovic Claims 24th Major Title with Victory Over Daniil Medvedev

0

In a thrilling showdown at the US Open 2023, Novak Djokovic secured his 24th Grand Slam singles title by triumphing over the resilient Daniil Medvedev. The final, held on Sunday, September 10, witnessed Djokovic clinching his fourth Flushing Meadows title with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 after an intense battle that lasted three hours and 16 minutes.

Djokovic’s victory not only solidified his status as a tennis legend but also drew him level with the iconic Margaret Court for the most major singles titles in history. Moreover, the Serbian sensation made history by becoming the oldest Grand Slam singles champion in the Open Era.

In his 10th US Open final appearance, Djokovic quickly took control by securing an early break and establishing a commanding 3-0 lead in the opening set. From that point onward, he maintained his dominance, wrapping up the set in just 48 minutes. Despite a valiant effort by Medvedev to stave off a break and set point at 2-5, it was Djokovic who sealed the deal with an unforced error from his opponent.

With Djokovic holding the first set, the odds favored him. In the past 30 years, players who lost the opening set had managed to win the men’s singles final only three times, with Djokovic himself being on the receiving end once in 2016 when he lost to Stan Wawrinka. Despite this setback, Medvedev still harbored hopes of a comeback.

The second set witnessed both players successfully holding their serves, resulting in a 3-3 deadlock. However, the highlight of the set was a breathtaking 31-shot rally between Djokovic and Medvedev, which left Djokovic sprawled on the court, likely due to exhaustion. During this intense exchange, the 27-year-old Medvedev narrowly avoided conceding a break by holding his serve.

Djokovic began to show signs of fatigue in the second set, as evidenced by the four double faults he committed. At 5-6, he fought off a set point, ultimately forcing a tie-break. In 2023, Djokovic had a remarkable record of winning 25 tie-breaks and losing only five, further showcasing his prowess in crucial moments. In a display of his resilience, he extended this record to 26, making it the longest second set at the US Open this year, lasting for an hour and 44 minutes.

As the match progressed into the third set, Djokovic managed to secure his second service break and build a 3-1 lead. This was a much-needed boost for Djokovic after his struggles in the previous set. However, Medvedev displayed remarkable resilience, swiftly breaking back and keeping the match and championship within his reach.

Djokovic, displaying unwavering composure, secured another crucial service break, putting immense pressure on Medvedev for the second time in the set. Djokovic then held his serve to ensure that Medvedev had to serve to stay in the match.

With the championship hanging in the balance, Medvedev had a fleeting opportunity to break Djokovic’s serve at 3-5, 30-30. However, Djokovic exhibited nerves of steel, denying Medvedev the break and ultimately emerging victorious in this gripping thriller.

Sharad Pawar Hints at NCP’s Shift Towards New Faces, Closing Doors on Rebels

0

Mumbai : Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar indicated on Sunday that he may not be inclined to welcome back rebel NCP leaders, emphasizing the need to support fresh talent within the party. Speaking at an event held at Mumbai’s Y B Chavan Centre, Pawar’s remarks come in the wake of a significant setback for the NCP in July when key figure Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar’s nephew, and eight senior leaders defected to the ruling coalition led by Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and the BJP.

“Some people ask me what should be done if those who joined the government wish to return. We are not going to rush into a decision on this matter. There is a consensus within the party that we should prioritize supporting new and fresh faces in the lead-up to elections,” stated the NCP president.

The faction led by Sharad Pawar in the NCP had informed the Election Commission that there was no internal dispute within the party, except for the actions of a few “mischievous” individuals who had departed from the organization for personal ambitions, a reference to the rebel group.

Pawar also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to Modi’s previous allegations against the NCP.

“Modi referred to the NCP as a corrupt party. However, after those remarks, he included some (NCP) members he had accused in his state government. It demonstrates the principles Modi adheres to,” remarked the NCP president.

Addressing a BJP event in Bhopal a few weeks prior to Ajit Pawar’s rebellion, Modi had accused the NCP of being involved in corruption amounting to Rs 70,000 crore, citing alleged scams in the Maharashtra Cooperative Bank and the state’s irrigation and mining sectors.

Pawar noted the public’s discontent with the developments in the state, expressing disapproval of governments formed by breaking away from other parties.

Just over a year before the NCP’s internal divisions, Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, also experienced a split when Eknath Shinde and 39 MLAs left the party. Shinde’s revolt ultimately led to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, after which he aligned with the BJP to become the Chief Minister.
