FIR Filed Against Aaj Tak Anchor Sudhir Chaudhary By Karnataka Govt.

0

“Sudhir tried to sow the seeds of hatred again by spreading false news.”

In a rapidly unfolding controversy, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, anchor for the Hindi channel Aaj Tak, finds himself entangled in a legal battle with the Karnataka government. The government has accused him of spreading deliberate and malicious misinformation concerning a subsidy scheme meant for commercial vehicles. This dispute has escalated quickly, with Chaudhary now claiming that the state government has filed an FIR against him, including non-bailable offences.

Sudhir Chaudhary took to his social media account during the late hours of Tuesday and Wednesday to inform the public about the FIR against him. He expressed his readiness for the legal fight and his willingness to meet the Karnataka government in court.

His initial query was regarding the exclusion of the Hindu community from the ‘Svalambi Sarathi Scheme’, which offers a 50 percent subsidy on commercial vehicles to religious minorities with an annual income of less than Rs 4.5 lakh.

The Karnataka government, under the leadership of the Congress party, has accused Chaudhary of spreading misinformation about the subsidy scheme. The program aims to provide financial assistance to religious minorities, including Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Parsis, to purchase commercial vehicles.

Karnataka Minister of Information Technology & Biotechnology (IT/BT), Priyank Kharge, condemned Chaudhary’s reporting as deliberate and malicious and threatened legal action.

Kharge’s warning to the news anchor is a part of the Congress government’s new policy on fact-checking, designed to counteract the spreading of false information that could disrupt peace and harmony in the state. However, it should be noted that the subsidy scheme predates the Congress government, as per government officials and official documents.

Under the ‘Svalambi Sarathi Scheme,’ beneficiaries who have been approved for bank loans to purchase autorickshaws, goods vehicles, or taxis are entitled to a 50 percent subsidy of up to Rs 3 lakh. Eligibility is based on membership in religious minorities, an age range of 18 to 55 years, and an annual income below Rs 4.5 lakh. Beneficiaries should not have availed of benefits from any other scheme of the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation Limited in the past five years.

The scheme had been in existence before the new government came into power, with funding allocated for religious minorities to acquire small commercial vehicles. Under the leadership of former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, adequate funds were released for this purpose

WHO Alerts: Fake Liver and Cancer Drugs Circulate in Market, Regulator Warns Doctors and Patients

Counterfeit Versions of Vital Medicines Prompt Vigilance

Representational Picture

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), India’s apex drug regulator, has issued a warning to state regulators, healthcare professionals, and patients regarding the presence of counterfeit versions of two medicines—Defitalio, used for liver-related conditions, and Adcetris, employed in the treatment of a type of blood cancer. This caution follows an alert from the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the circulation of falsified versions of these drugs in four countries, including India.

Defitalio is crucial for addressing a severe condition characterized by blocked vessels in the liver, while Adcetris plays a vital role in treating a specific type of blood cancer.

The CDSCO has urged state authorities to closely monitor the movement, sale, and distribution of these products in the market. They have also recommended thorough testing of medicine samples. Healthcare professionals are advised to prescribe these medications with caution and educate patients about reporting any adverse effects. Furthermore, individuals are encouraged to purchase these medicines exclusively from authorized stores.

Counterfeit versions of Defitalio for liver ailments were identified in India and Turkey. These falsified products were distributed outside of regulated and authorized channels, as per the alert.

Based on information provided by the WHO, the drug regulator noted that genuine Defitalio drugs are packaged in Germany and Austria. In contrast, the counterfeit versions falsely claim to be packaged in the UK and Ireland. Additionally, the stated expiration date is incorrect and does not align with the registered shelf life. Moreover, the product lacks marketing authorization in India and Turkey.

Counterfeit Adcetris injection 50mg has been detected in four countries, including India. These products are typically available at the patient level and are distributed through unregulated supply chains, primarily online. The falsified Adcetris has been discovered in both illicit and regulated supply chains, with the WHO identifying eight different batches of counterfeit products in circulation.

The use of falsified Defitalio could result in ineffective patient treatment, pose serious health risks due to its intravenous administration, and potentially be life-threatening in certain situations, as emphasized in the WHO alert, which was reiterated by the Indian drug controller.

These alerts come in the wake of a recent warning from the drug controller regarding Digene Gel, a medicine used for acid reflux and gastritis treatment. Abbott voluntarily recalled the product after some customers reported that the syrup was white in color, had a bitter taste, and emitted a pungent odor. The company reassured the availability of genuine Digene Gel in the market from its larger facility in Baddi, confirming the safety of tablet and stick pack variants.

10 Senior MBBS Students at Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad Suspended for Ragging

0

Hyderabad, – In a stern response to incidents of ragging, the Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr. K Ramesh Reddy, issued orders on Monday suspending 10 senior MBBS students from Gandhi Medical College for a duration of one year.

Dr. Ramesh Reddy revealed, “The anti-ragging committee conducted a thorough investigation into the incident and found that 10 senior MBBS students were involved in ragging their juniors. Consequently, all 10 students have been suspended from the college for a period of one year.”

Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, the DME sent a clear warning to senior students in other private and government medical colleges in Telangana. He stated that strict action in accordance with anti-ragging regulations would be taken against any students found engaging in ragging activities.

Dr. Ramesh Reddy explained that despite earlier warnings issued by health authorities against ragging in medical colleges, some senior students persisted in ragging first-year students within the premises of Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad. In response to the seriousness of the issue, a complaint was filed with the UGC anti-ragging cell in New Delhi, prompting further action.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) took note of the increasing number of suicides by first-year MBBS students across the country. In June of this year, the NMC issued a circular directing medical colleges to promptly address complaints of harassment and ragging reported by first-year MBBS undergraduates and PG medicos. The NMC expressed concern that medical colleges were not adequately responding to ragging complaints and failing to submit their compliance reports in accordance with the Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges and Institutions Regulations, 2021.

To facilitate reporting, medical students are encouraged to visit the NMC website (nmc.org.in) to lodge their complaints.
