“Confidence High: Congress Chief Foresees Victory in All 5 States Ahead of Polls”

0

Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the Congress party, voiced his optimism on Wednesday, asserting that the grand old party is poised to secure victories in all five states scheduled for elections next month. Kharge also highlighted anti-incumbency sentiments within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking to a news agency in Kalaburgi, Kharge commended the Congress-led governments in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, emphasizing their effective governance and minimal public disruptions. He stated, “Congress’ preparations for the elections in five states are going well. We are confident that we will win in all the states. There has been an anti-incumbency for the BJP owing to mainly inflation and unemployment.”

Kharge went on to reveal a shifting sentiment in Madhya Pradesh, indicating a growing dissatisfaction with the BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

In a series of accusations, the Congress leader criticized the BJP at the national level, asserting that the party failed to deliver on any of its electoral promises. “Whatever promises were made, BJP did not fulfill even a single promise, be it unemployment, doubling farmer’s income, or investment,” he claimed.

During his visit to his hometown of Kalaburgi in Karnataka, Kharge accused the Central government of neglecting the state, stating, “No central projects are being given (to Karnataka).”

As the Assembly Elections draw near, both Congress and BJP emerge as pivotal players in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Telangana, on the other hand, is expected to witness a three-way contest involving the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress, and BJP.

In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, which comprises 230 seats, the 2018 elections saw Congress securing 114 seats with a vote share of 41.5%, while the BJP won 109 seats with a vote share of 41.6%.

These crucial state elections are scheduled to be held in single or two phases across all five states—Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram—in November.

The voting schedule is as follows: Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30. The final vote count for all states is slated for December 3.

NCERT Unanimously Approves ‘Bharat’ Instead of ‘India’ in Next Set of Textbooks

“In a Landmark Move, NCERT Greenlights ‘Bharat’ in Next Textbooks”

In a significant development, a proposal put forth by a National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) panel to replace ‘India’ with ‘Bharat’ in the next edition of textbooks has been unanimously accepted. This decision was confirmed by CI Isaac, a member of the panel.

The proposal, which was introduced several months ago, has garnered attention and sparked discussions about the potential official name change of the country to ‘Bharat’. Notably, the invitations for the recent G20 dinner, hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, referred to her as the “President of Bharat,” leading to a political debate.

Further reinforcing the idea of this change, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nameplate during his address at the G20 Leaders’ Summit, held at the Bharat Mandapam in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, prominently featured ‘Bharat’ instead of ‘India.’ Videos and photos of this event with the ‘Bharat’ placard quickly went viral.

It’s important to note that Article 1 (1) of the Constitution defines the name of the country as “India, that is Bharat shall be the Union of States.”

In addition to the name change, the panel’s proposal, introduced several months ago, also includes recommendations to emphasize ‘Hindu victories’ in the textbooks. Furthermore, it suggests replacing ‘ancient history’ with ‘classical history,’ and history will no longer be categorized into ancient, medieval, and modern.

The panel has also put forth the idea of incorporating the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into the curriculum across all subjects.

This committee is just one of the 25 committees collaborating with NCERT at the central level to align the curriculum with the National Education Policy 2020.

Amidst an unfolding bushfire crisis in Australia, hundreds of residents are seeking refuge in evacuation centers as deadly fires continue to rage in Queensland. In neighboring New South Wales, grass fires persist, while authorities deploy fire retardant and a fleet of aerial firefighting resources to combat the infernos.

On Wednesday, the eastern state of Queensland bore the brunt of relentless bushfires, exacerbated by soaring temperatures and dry winds, leading to some of the most perilous fire conditions in recent memory.

The Western Downs, a crucial agricultural and fruit-growing region situated approximately four hours’ drive west of Brisbane, faced one of the most severe impacts from the fires.

This week, high to extreme fire danger ratings loom large across much of Australia, with temperatures in multiple states expected to surpass October averages by several degrees.

Tragedy Unfolds: Firefighters are working tirelessly to protect properties, with four already confirmed as lost to the flames. Regrettably, it has been confirmed that at least two lives have been claimed by the fires. Evacuation orders are presently in effect in Queensland’s southeast.

In New South Wales, bushfires have engulfed more than 11,000 hectares, with an additional 30,000 hectares of land succumbing to the relentless blaze. The situation remains highly volatile.

Furthermore, a “firenado” phenomenon has wreaked havoc, tearing through six kilometers of bushland in just 15 minutes in remote Western Australia, underscoring the intensity and unpredictability of these wildfires.

Almost Confirmed Ghar Wapsi – Rajagopal Reddy Resigns from BJP, Set to Rejoin Congress

0

In a stunning turn of events, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, a prominent figure in the Telangana BJP, has tendered his resignation and is poised to make a comeback to the Congress, the party he was previously associated with. Reddy, who joined the saffron party approximately 15 months ago, is anticipated to formalize his return to the Congress in a ceremony attended by Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

Reports indicate that Rajagopal Reddy is strongly considering a bid for the Munugodu constituency on the Congress ticket.

Expressing his reasons for leaving the BJP, Rajagopal Reddy cited the party’s inability to establish itself as a credible alternative to the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana.

In an official statement released to the media, Rajagopal Reddy stated, “The BJP, which emerged as an alternative to the ruling BRS in Telangana a year-and-a-half ago, has somewhat compromised its position in subsequent political developments. Now the people of Telangana are looking at the Congress as an alternative to the ruling BRS. That is why I also decided to act according to the wishes of Telangana people.”

He further elaborated, “Political equations in the state have shifted, as the people’s desire for the Central government to take action against the corrupt K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) government remains unfulfilled. Since the BJP could not successfully position itself as an alternative to the ruling BRS, the Congress has stepped into that role. My aspirations were always centered on safeguarding the interests of Telangana. I call upon the people of the state to support me as I join the Congress in a bid to end the dictatorial rule of KCR.”

Israel Calls for UN Secretary-General’s Resignation over Accusations of Violating International Humanitarian Law in Gaza

Antonio Guterres Appeals for the Protection of Civilians in the Israel-Hamas Conflict, Expresses Concern About the Escalation’s Regional Consequences

The United Nations Secretary-General has reiterated his plea for a Gaza ceasefire and has expressed concerns about the breach of international law in the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.

Israel has continuously bombarded the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7, following a surprise attack by Hamas on southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,400 people, according to Israeli authorities.

In the aftermath of the attack, Israel cut off the supply of water, food, fuel, and electricity to Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, a move the UN has labeled as a form of collective punishment. Furthermore, Israel launched an assault on the territory, leading to the deaths of at least 5,791 people, according to authorities in Gaza, which is governed by Hamas.

Israel’s 56-Year Occupation of Palestine: UN Secretary-General’s Statement “Israel angry.”

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed that violations of international law are ongoing in Gaza, and there should be an immediate ceasefire in response to Hamas attacks. The way Israel is bombing Palestinian areas in response to Hamas attacks has escalated the crisis to the extent that deep divisions have emerged in the Security Council.

On the other hand, Israel addressed the Security Council in a high-level session, expressing dissatisfaction with the Secretary-General’s stance. In response, the Palestinian Foreign Minister condemned Israel, stating that thousands have already lost their lives.

During the high-level session, the Secretary-General said, “There was no justification for the Hamas attacks on October 7, but the way Gaza is being subjected to social penalties also has no justification.” He also issued a warning against this social punishment.

The Secretary-General said, “I am deeply concerned that clear violations of international law are being witnessed in Gaza at this time. I want to make it clear that even in armed conflicts, no party has the right to consider themselves above international laws.” However, the Secretary-General did not mention Israel by name.

He also said, “Israel has maintained control over Palestinians for 56 years due to the occupation.” Addressing the Security Council, he further stated, “It should also be acknowledged that the Hamas attacks did not occur in a vacuum.”

The UN Secretary-General’s statements have drawn criticism from Israel, and the Israeli Foreign Minister, in his remarks, indirectly referred to the Secretary-General by saying, “Mr. Secretary-General! Where do you live in this world?”

Kohen referred to the year 2005 when Israel withdrew from Gaza. The last mile of Gaza was handed over to the Palestinians. There is no dispute over the land of Gaza. It should be noted that when Hamas won the elections and took power in Gaza, Israel began the siege. Sixteen years have passed, but the blockade is still in place.

During the Special Session of the Security Council, shortly after, the Israeli Ambassador demanded the resignation of the United Nations Secretary-General, claiming that Guterres had expressed sympathy with terrorism and murderers.

In a distressing turn of events, Israeli occupation forces barred Palestinian worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem today, stripping them of their fundamental right to worship and prayer, as reported by the Palestinian Information Centre.

The Islamic Endowments Department revealed that the Israeli occupation authority abruptly closed all gates leading to the Muslim holy site this afternoon, effectively preventing Palestinians from accessing the mosque. Furthermore, Israeli police have enforced stringent restrictions on worshippers’ entry since the early hours, granting access solely to the elderly for the dawn prayer.

This marks the first instance in several months where Al-Aqsa Mosque, a significant religious site, has been completely inaccessible to Muslims. The move has sparked deep concern and condemnation within the Palestinian community and the international arena, raising questions about the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Grapples With Undecided Candidates for Telangana Polls

0

Hyderabad : With the Telangana Assembly elections swiftly approaching, the ruling party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), continues to grapple with uncertainties over candidate selections for four crucial constituencies, sparking anticipation and speculation as the election date draws near.

Despite being at the forefront in the early announcement of candidates and an active campaign, the delay in revealing the candidates for these four key seats has created a sense of confusion and suspense, both within the party ranks and among the public.

It’s worth noting that the BRS President and Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, had unveiled candidates for 115 out of 119 constituencies on August 21, an impressive 45 days ahead of the official election schedule announcement.

KCR, harboring the confidence of securing a hat-trick, retained the majority of the incumbent legislators. However, eight sitting MLAs were denied party tickets in various constituencies, including the high-profile Kamareddy, which CM KCR plans to contest in addition to Gajwel, his present constituency.

Sitting MLA Mynampalli Hanumantha Rao was initially renominated from the Malkajgiri constituency but later severed ties with the party. His decision stemmed from the party’s rejection of his request for a ticket for his son, Rohith Rao, to contest from Medak. The father-son duo subsequently switched to the Congress, where they are now fielded in Malkajgiri and Medak, respectively.

The BRS has since replaced Hanumantha Rao with Marri Rajasekhara Reddy as its candidate for Malkajgiri. Rajasekhar Reddy, who is the son-in-law of Labour Minister Malla Reddy, had previously contested from Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 as a BRS candidate but was unsuccessful.

In the Jangaon constituency, one of the areas where the BRS has not yet unveiled its candidates, sitting MLA Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy expressed his strong desire for the party to retain him as the candidate. Concurrently, MLC P. Rajeshwar Reddy is keen on entering the electoral race. An agreement was eventually reached, with the BRS appointing Yadagiri Reddy as the Chairman of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), while Rajeshwar Reddy was provided the B-form by the party.

The remaining three constituencies of Narsapur, Goshamahal, and Nampally also await the BRS’s candidate announcements.

In the Nampally constituency in Hyderabad, AIMIM and Congress are locked in a direct battle. The BRS is reportedly contemplating the name of a candidate who could potentially affect Congress’s chances, thus indirectly aiding their alliance partner, AIMIM.

Numerous contenders vying for party tickets in Narsapur and Goshamahal have posed a challenge for the BRS leadership in making their selections.

To prevent last-minute nomination confusion, the BRS has opted to distribute B-forms to candidates well in advance of the official notification date. So far, the party has already distributed nominations to 109 candidates.

However, for the six seats currently held by AIMIM – Charminar, Yakutpura, Chandrayangutta, Karwan, Malakpet, and Bahadurpura – the BRS is yet to issue B-forms.

In the Alampur (SC) constituency, while the BRS initially decided to field sitting MLA V. M. Abraham, mounting demands from rival factions within the party have led the party leadership to consider potential changes. MLC Challa Venkatrami Reddy, who is in charge of the elections for the constituency, is advocating for a change in the candidate selection. Furthermore, former MP Manda Jagannadham is also demanding the ticket, either for himself or for his son.

The unresolved candidate selections remain an area of keen interest and debate as the election date approaches, with the potential to significantly influence the outcome of the Telangana Assembly elections.

Congress Set to Unveil Second List of Telangana Assembly Election Candidates

0

Hyderabad: The Congress party is poised to reveal its second list of candidates for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections, with the announcement expected on Wednesday or Thursday.

A meeting of the Central Election Committee of the party is scheduled for Wednesday in New Delhi, during which discussions and decisions regarding the candidate selection will take place. The initial list, consisting of 55 candidates, was disclosed by the Congress on October 15, leaving an additional 64 candidates to be declared.

The Screening Committee convened on October 21 and 22 at the residence of General Secretary, Organisation, K.C. Venugopal in Delhi. Chaired by Committee Chairman M.P. Muralidharan, the meeting included the presence of state unit President A. Revanth Reddy, AICC incharge for Telangana Manikrao Thakre, MPs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy, as well as election strategist Sunil Kanugolu.

The Screening Committee reviewed the candidate options but did not reach a final decision for certain constituencies. Instead, they shortlisted candidates and submitted the list to the Central Election Committee for approval. However, the presence of multiple strong contenders in specific constituencies may pose a challenge for the CEC in their decision-making process.

During the Screening Committee meeting, discussions on both supportive and opposing viewpoints for various applicants took place, with constituencies like Amperpet, LB Nagar, Narsapur, Suryapet, Khairatabad, and Jubilee Hills being areas of disagreement.
