Income Tax Department Initiates Raids on Telangana Congress Leader Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy Ahead of Elections

0

Khammam : The Income Tax (I-T) Department has launched raids on the premises of Telangana Congress leader Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, a key candidate in the upcoming November 30 polls for the Paleru constituency in Khammam district. Here are the details of this unfolding situation:

  • The I-T Department officials commenced these raids during the early hours of Thursday, around 3 a.m. The operation is still underway, and it is being conducted under stringent security measures.
  • Before commencing the searches, the I-T officials confiscated the mobile phones of employees at Srinivas Reddy’s residence and offices.
  • Srinivas Reddy, a notable Congress leader and also a businessman, had plans to file his nomination on the very day these raids were initiated.
  • It’s noteworthy that Srinivas Reddy joined the Congress party in July, a few months after he was suspended by the state’s ruling party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), due to alleged anti-party activities.
  • A day prior to the raids, Srinivas Reddy expressed concerns that I-T searches might be directed at him, his family members, supporters, and other prominent Congress leaders in the district. He alleged that the BJP and BRS had collaborated to deploy central agencies for conducting raids on Congress leaders.
  • In a bold statement to the media, Srinivas Reddy suggested that these raids indicate the Congress party’s potential victory in the upcoming Telangana elections. As the co-chairman of the Congress campaign committee, he also indicated that party leaders should be prepared for challenging times ahead.
  • Furthermore, Srinivas Reddy urged his fellow party leaders not to be disheartened by the ongoing raids, emphasizing their commitment to the electoral process.
  • It’s worth noting that officials from the Election Commission of India, in coordination with the police, conducted searches at the residence of former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who is a Congress candidate for the Khammam Assembly constituency. Nageswara Rao recently switched from BRS to the Congress after being denied a ticket to contest the Assembly polls.
  • In Khammam, the incumbent transport minister, P. Ajay Kumar, is seeking re-election as a BRS candidate.

These I-T raids on the premises of Congress leaders have added an intriguing twist to the political landscape in Telangana, especially in the lead-up to the November 30 elections.

Telangana’s Educational Innovation: Introduction of PEN for School Students

0

In a pioneering move, the Telangana Education Department is set to revolutionize the way students’ educational records are managed. Commencing from the academic year 2023-24, students in the state will receive a unique Permanent Education Number (PEN) that will stay with them throughout their academic journey.

This 11-digit PEN will act as a distinctive identifier, following students from their pre-primary years through primary, secondary, senior secondary, graduate, post-graduate, research, and up-skilling phases. It will contain crucial information, including the student’s name, date of birth, gender, and academic history.

One of the key advantages of the PEN system is its ability to facilitate the tracking of students even if they relocate to different schools within Telangana or elsewhere in the country. Beyond simplifying the admission process, education officials anticipate that this number will also prove invaluable for scholarship applications, examination registrations, and employment records.

A senior official emphasized that the PEN is a distinct system from the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR). It is designed to allow authorities to monitor students, irrespective of their place of study in the country. Furthermore, it will aid in identifying dropouts and re-enrolling them in schools.

To kickstart this initiative, the PEN will be printed on Secondary School Certificate (SSC) hall tickets and memos for students under all educational managements in the state starting from the academic year 2023-24. This unique number will be in addition to the existing hall ticket number on these documents.

Education department Secretary Vakati Karuna recently issued an order permitting the School Education department to include the PEN on SSC hall tickets and memos, marking the official launch of this transformative system.

In addition to maintaining admission and attendance records, recording the student’s PEN in transfer certificates or record sheets has been made mandatory from pre-primary to Class XII in the current academic year. This step aims to emphasize the importance of comprehensive and updated student information on the UDISE Portal, ensuring that schools have access to accurate data for effective educational management.

“ED, CBI, and Income Tax Work as BJP’s ‘Star Campaigners,’ Alleges Mallikarjun Kharge” Watch the Video

0

In his recent TV interview, Mallikarjun Kharge directly implicated the BJP in utilizing the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Income Tax Department (IT) as the party’s “star campaigners.” He argued that these government agencies have been actively participating in the electoral process to further the BJP’s political agenda.

Kharge highlighted a notable difference between the Congress and the BJP’s electoral strategies. While the Congress typically fields one candidate per constituency, the BJP puts forth multiple candidates. According to Kharge, one candidate remains visible, but there are “invisible” candidates — the ED, CBI, and IT, who operate behind the scenes.

As of the time of this report, the BJP has not issued an official response to Kharge’s allegations. The ruling party has consistently denied any misuse of government institutions for political purposes and maintains that their candidates participate in elections according to democratic norms.

Mallikarjun Kharge’s comments have added fuel to the ongoing debate over the role of government institutions in India’s political landscape. These allegations are expected to amplify discussions regarding the use of government agencies for political purposes, with potential implications for the political climate, especially as various states gear up for elections.

“Watch the video of Bihar Chief Minister’s indecent manner of speech and today’s apology.”

In a surprising turn of events, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has issued a public apology for his controversial remarks about women’s education, which had sparked outrage among the opposition and women’s organizations.

Addressing the media outside the assembly, CM Nitish Kumar expressed remorse, saying, “I have expressed my regret while talking to journalists outside the House. I am ready to do so again. If my words have caused any hurt, I condemn myself.”

The Bihar Assembly session, scheduled for November 8, was abruptly adjourned until 2 p.m. after it started, as the Opposition BJP persisted in demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over his remarks regarding women.

Opposition Leader Vijay Kumar Sinha, in a dramatic move, accused the Chief Minister of being unfit to govern the state and insisted on his resignation, labeling him as “mentally unfit.”

In response to the allegations, Chief Minister Kumar, who was present in the House, rose to offer an explanation. He reiterated his regret, saying, “I have expressed my regret while talking to journalists outside the House. I am ready to do so again. If my words have caused any hurt, I condemn myself (main apni ninda karta hoon).”

Kumar went on to provide context for his earlier statements, saying, “The context in which I had made the remarks must not be lost sight of. I have always been a strong advocate of women’s education, and it was a eureka moment for me when I saw a direct correlation between education levels among women and fertility rate.”

Despite Kumar’s apology and explanation, the Opposition remained unmoved, with many members storming the well and demanding his resignation. The Speaker intervened, reminding them that the Chief Minister enjoyed the confidence of the people and had already expressed regret for his statements. The Speaker also assured that any unparliamentary language used in Kumar’s speech would be expunged from the records. Nonetheless, as the ruckus continued, the Speaker adjourned the House until lunch.

Meanwhile, women’s wings of Left parties, supporting the state’s ruling ‘Mahagathbandhan’ government, condemned the Chief Minister’s remarks. Organizations like the CPI(M) affiliate AIDWA and CPI(ML) Liberation affiliated AIPWA demanded an apology from the Chief Minister, criticizing his “vulgar” and patriarchal language and body language.

These women’s organizations also censured female members of the House for not objecting to Kumar’s statements during the session, alleging that their primary concern was their own political careers.

The controversy surrounding Nitish Kumar’s remarks and the ensuing political turmoil have left the Bihar Assembly in disarray, with the fate of the Chief Minister hanging in the balance.

In a significant operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids in multiple locations across eight states and two Union Territories in connection with human trafficking cases that have been registered by the agency. Sources familiar with the matter provided this information.

The raids, spanning across Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir, are part of NIA’s efforts to address human trafficking issues. Notably, last month, the federal agency arrested an individual named Mohammad Imran Khan in Tamil Nadu in connection with the illegal stay of certain Sri Lankan nationals in India. However, it remains unclear if these Wednesday’s raids are directly linked to that particular case.

The NIA boasts a specialized anti-human trafficking probe unit that deals with cases having international implications. In 2022, the agency investigated the trafficking of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims into Indian territory, followed by their settlement using forged documents.

Officials cited above have indicated that more information regarding the ongoing raids will be disclosed at a later time, as the agency continues to make progress in its investigations. Stay tuned for updates on this developing situation.

Supreme Court of India Imposes Nationwide Ban on Firecrackers

0

In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court of India has issued a nationwide ban on the use of firecrackers. This decision extends the previously established restrictions on the use of barium and banned chemicals in firecrackers, which were initially applicable to the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) and have now been expanded to encompass all states in the country.

The apex court clarified its position on this matter while deliberating a plea related to firecracker usage in the state of Rajasthan. In response to the state’s concerns, the court emphasized that no fresh directives were required and instructed Rajasthan to adhere to the existing orders.

The bench, comprising Justice A S Bopanna and Justice M M Sundresh, stated, “At this juncture, no specific order will be necessary in as much as this Court in the course of hearing the petitions has passed several orders, where steps have been indicated to minimize and avoid air as well as noise pollution. Hence the said orders will bind every state in the country, including the state of Rajasthan.”

Furthermore, the Supreme Court underscored that there exists a misperception regarding the court’s sole responsibility in addressing environmental issues. It asserted that the duty to manage pollution rests upon every individual.

The court also urged every citizen to promote an eco-friendly approach to celebrating Diwali, encouraging the use of fewer firecrackers.

Notably, in 2021, the Supreme Court had issued a series of directives to ensure that banned chemicals were not utilized in firecrackers leading up to Diwali. It clarified that the ban applied solely to firecrackers containing barium salts, while green crackers remained permissible, in line with directions issued in 2018.

In its hearing on November 7, 2023, the Supreme Court observed a noteworthy trend: a greater prevalence of firecracker use by adults in comparison to children. It called upon the state of Rajasthan to take immediate action to curb pollution in the city of Udaipur.

It is worth mentioning that on September 22, the Supreme Court had rejected a plea seeking the allowance of firecrackers containing barium chemicals for manufacturing, sale, and use.

United Nations Demands Immediate Humanitarian Ceasefire in Gaza

0

In a recent development, the United Nations has called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, denouncing the ongoing Israel-Hamas war that has persisted for over a month. The UN made a resounding statement on the matter, decrying the continued siege, attacks, and deprivation of basic amenities for the population as “unacceptable.”

The UN’s Principals of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee on the situation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory issued this urgent plea. Their official statement was shared on social media, saying, “We need an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. It’s been thirty days. Enough is enough. This must stop now. Heads of 18 UN agencies and NGOs issue a joint statement on #Gaza.”

Furthermore, the UN watchdog noted that the October 7 attack on Israel should not justify the “horrific killings” of civilians in Gaza and the isolation of 2.2 million Palestinians from vital amenities. The statement emphasizes the necessity for increased aid, including food, water, medicines, and fuel, to enter Gaza, and the immediate implementation of a humanitarian ceasefire.

This UN call comes as the situation in Gaza continues to escalate, with humanitarian concerns growing more pressing by the day. The international community awaits further developments and responses to this urgent call for action.
