“After extending the invitation to Naidu, Sharmila spoke to the media. Watch the video for details.”

Congress leader YS Sharmila emphasized that her meeting with Chandrababu Naidu was non-political, stating that it centered around inviting the TDP president to her son’s wedding on February 17, 2024. Sharmila, who recently joined the Congress, clarified that their discussion did not involve politics but rather exchanged pleasantries. She mentioned Naidu’s positive relations with her father, former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Responding to questions about sending Christmas gifts, Sharmila explained that the gesture was extended to several political figures, including Naidu, KT Rama Rao, Harish Rao, Kavitha, and others. She emphasized the gesture as an expression of friendliness beyond political boundaries.

Sharmila highlighted the broader perspective, asserting that life extends beyond politics and that friendly gestures are part of public service. She invited various individuals to her son’s wedding, clarifying that not every action should be linked to politics. Sharmila acknowledged the political diversity, expressing her commitment to work faithfully for the Congress in any assigned role.

Regarding her choice of attire during the invitation, she mentioned wearing a yellow saree while extending the invitation to Chandrababu Naidu, emphasizing that it should not be seen as unusual given the non-political nature of the interaction.

Sharmila also shared her optimism about positive changes if Rahul Gandhi assumes the role of Prime Minister, aligning with the late YSR’s vision to reduce communal violence. She reiterated joining the Congress with the same intention and commitment to public service.

Kharge Named Chairperson of INDIA Bloc as Nitish Kumar Temporarily Declines Convener Role

0

In a significant development during the virtual meeting of INDIA bloc leaders on Saturday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has been appointed as the chairperson of the Opposition alliance. Simultaneously, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is also the president of Janata Dal (United), has temporarily chosen to withdraw from the convener post within the alliance, citing a condition that he would only accept if there is a consensus among all allies, according to sources.

The meeting, conducted virtually, focused on reviewing the seat-sharing agenda and addressing important matters related to the alliance. Notably, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, were conspicuously absent from the meeting.

Sources indicate that the TMC’s reluctance to engage in seat-sharing talks with the Congress’s national alliance committee led to its decision to skip the meeting. Earlier in the week, the TMC had signaled a willingness to concede two or three seats to the Congress in Bengal, an offer rejected by the state Congress.

The issue of appointing Nitish Kumar as the convener faced dissent within the INDIA bloc, with leaders of some parties expressing reservations, particularly the TMC. The JD(U) had advocated for a North-South combination, with Kharge as the chairperson and Kumar as the convener, aiming to present a united front ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress, aware of discomfort among regional parties about heading the alliance, was agreeable to Kumar’s appointment as the convener if consensus could be achieved. However, sources reveal a lack of enthusiasm from the Congress, leading to disappointment within the JD(U).

In the preceding weeks, the JD(U) actively sought support for its proposal from various INDIA bloc constituents. Despite the outreach, the party expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress’s perceived lack of enthusiasm on the matter. The dynamics within the INDIA alliance continue to evolve, setting the stage for further deliberations and negotiations among key political players.

“Trump Ordered to Pay $400k in Legal Fees to NY Times After Failed Lawsuit on Family Wealth Story”

0

In a legal development, former President Donald Trump has been instructed to pay $392,638 in legal fees to The New York Times and investigative reporters Susanne Craig, David Barstow, and Russell Buettner, following an unsuccessful lawsuit. The legal action, stemming from a Pulitzer Prize-winning 2018 story on Trump’s family wealth and tax practices, saw the dismissal of the newspaper and reporters from the case in May.

New York Judge Robert Reed, citing the complexity of the case, ruled that Trump must cover the legal expenses for the Times and the reporters. This decision underscores the significance of New York’s anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) statute, designed to protect press freedom by discouraging baseless lawsuits.

While this marks a victory for the press, Trump’s pending claim against his estranged niece, Mary Trump, continues. He alleges that she breached a prior settlement agreement by providing tax records to the reporters. The court denied Mary Trump’s request to put the case on hold while she appeals a previous decision allowing Trump’s claim against her to proceed.

Trump’s lawsuit, filed in 2021, accused The New York Times and its reporters of aggressively seeking information from Mary Trump and persuading her to disclose confidential tax records. The case delves into Trump’s challenge against the Times’ reporting, which questioned his claims of self-made wealth and exposed financial transactions between him and his father, Fred Trump.

The Times’ report detailed how Fred Trump reportedly provided Donald Trump with substantial financial support over the years, including through tax avoidance strategies. Mary Trump, who identified herself as the source of the documents, became a central figure in the controversy.

In a broader context, the legal proceedings reflect the ongoing legal battles involving Donald Trump, his family, and the media. Mary Trump, an outspoken critic of her uncle, filed a counterclaim in July under New York’s anti-SLAPP law, characterizing Donald Trump’s lawsuit as retaliatory and lacking merit, with an intent to stifle criticism.

As the legal saga continues, these developments underscore the intersection of legal challenges, press freedom, and the broader scrutiny of Trump’s financial history.

“Dictatorship Defeated – Democracy Prevails”: Prof. Kodandaram Addresses “Democratic Victory Meeting”

0

Hyderabad :- In the aftermath of the Telangana Assembly elections where the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) faced defeat, and the Congress emerged victorious, a significant “Democratic Victory Meeting” took place in Secunderabad’s Addagutta area. Professor Kodandaram, a respected figure in the political landscape, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Reflecting on the election outcome, where the BRS had to concede to defeat, and the Congress successfully formed its government in Telangana, the meeting served as a platform for introspection and celebration. Addressing the gathering, Professor Kodandaram characterized the governance under the BRS as akin to dictatorship and contrasted it with the democratic values exemplified by the victorious Congress.

Acknowledging the success of the Congress in forming the government, Kodandaram commended the triumph as a “Democratic Victory.” In his address, he emphasized the significance of democratic principles and their alignment with the will of the people. The meeting aimed to mark this transition from what was perceived as a dictatorial regime to the democratic governance promised by the newly established Congress government in Telangana.

This gathering provided a space for reflection on the recent political developments and set the tone for the democratic aspirations of the region under the new government.

“Baad Ladai ke Ghoonsa Yaad Aaya” TRS Echoes Again: BRS Party Faces Internal Turmoil, Leaders Push for Name Reversion Amidst Election Post-Mortem

0

Hyderabad :- In the aftermath of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party’s recent electoral setback in the Telangana Assembly elections, a chorus demanding the restoration of the party’s original name, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), has gained momentum. The party, which held the TRS moniker for nearly nine-and-a-half years after coming to power in the state, is facing internal discussions on reverting to its former identity.

During the ongoing nine-day preparatory meeting for the BRS ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, party leaders have been vocal in calling for this significant name change. Notable figures such as BRS working president KT Rama Rao, former ministers Harish Rao, Kadiyam Srihari, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, and Niranjan Reddy are actively participating in these preparatory meetings.

Prominent voices within the party, including former ministers, sitting MLAs, and ex-MLAs, are backing the demand to revert to the TRS name. The preparatory meetings, initiated on January 3 at the Telangana Bhavan state party office and scheduled until January 22, aim to strategize for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, much of the discourse has centered on analyzing the reasons behind BRS’ defeat in the recent state elections.

Party cadres are being given an opportunity to express their views during these meetings, addressing concerns about organizational issues like the perceived lack of party structure and operational deficiencies. The leaders have emphasized that the TRS, initially formed with the goal of achieving statehood for Telangana, still resonates more with the people than the current BRS designation.

Members argue that dropping ‘Telangana’ from the party’s name contributed to the electoral setback, leading to the downfall of the government. They insist on returning to the original TRS name to re-establish a connection with the people.

Highlighting the recent Munugode bypoll victory under the old TRS banner, some leaders plan to formally request party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) to approve the restoration of the TRS name. According to a senior BRS leader, if KCR greenlights the proposal, the name-changing process can be completed before the commencement of campaigning for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state.

Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Congress Initiates Journey from Private Ground in Manipur’s Thoubal

0

Manipur :-  Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is set to kick off the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on January 14 from a private ground in Thoubal district, deviating from the initially planned starting point in Imphal. The flagging-off ceremony underwent last-minute changes due to tensions in the state, leading to a political dispute between the ruling and opposition parties.

The proposed Hapta Kangjeibung public ground in Imphal faced hurdles in receiving permissions from the Manipur government, prompting the Congress to seek an alternative venue. Despite discussions with Chief Minister N Biren Singh on January 10, the permission was not granted initially. However, a late-night decision by Thoubal DC eventually allowed the Yatra to commence from a private land in the Khongjom area of the district.

Congress’s Manipur president, Keisham Meghachandra, stated, “Not more than 1,000 people will be allowed at the venue, causing an alarming situation as the permission was initially withheld. Despite the change in the starting point, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will flag off the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, affirming that the route remains unchanged.”

The Yatra, covering a distance of 6,713 kilometers over 67 days, will pass through 110 districts across 15 states, starting in Manipur on January 14 and concluding in Mumbai on March 20. The altered starting point aims to ensure a smooth initiation of the Yatra amid the prevailing circumstances in the state.
