Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan found himself in a familiar confrontation on Monday, February 19, as he once again stepped out of his vehicle to confront activists from the Students Federation of India (SFI) brandishing black flags. The incident unfolded in Mattannur town in Kerala’s district when Khan was en route to the airport in Kannur after meeting the families affected by wild animal attacks in neighboring Wayanad district.
As Khan’s convoy traversed through the town, a group of SFI activists attempted to obstruct his vehicle and displayed black flags, signaling their dissent.
Reacting to the provocative action, Governor Khan halted his car, exited, and approached the protesters, inviting them to engage with him. Despite efforts by police and security personnel to defuse the situation, Khan remained steadfast, causing moments of tension.
After some intervention from his staff and security detail, Khan eventually returned to his vehicle, asserting, “Anywhere they come near the car, I will get down.” He spent five minutes on the bustling road before continuing his journey.
This incident in Mattannur echoes a recent event where Khan staged a roadside protest in Nilamel, Kollam, demanding the arrest of SFI activists who had protested against him. In that instance, Khan grabbed a chair from a nearby shop on the busy MC Road and sat in protest, urging action against the demonstrators.
The SFI has consistently protested against Governor Khan, accusing him of attempting to “saffronize” universities in the state, leading to recurring tensions between the Governor and the student organization.

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi’s chief minister, is set to defy the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons for the sixth time, citing the summons as “illegal.” The ED has been investigating Kejriwal in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22.
The AAP has firmly stated that Kejriwal will not appear before the ED, urging the agency to await the court’s decision instead of continuously issuing summonses. This latest summons is part of the ongoing money laundering probe related to the excise policy case.
Having missed multiple summonses, the ED had approached a city court, which had previously granted Kejriwal an exemption from appearing personally on Saturday. The court had accepted Kejriwal’s counsel’s application citing the ongoing Budget Session of the Delhi assembly, which began on February 15 and will continue until the first week of March.
Kejriwal has committed to appearing physically before the court on the next scheduled hearing date, set for March 16.
This development follows Kejriwal’s failure to appear for the fifth summons on February 2, which the AAP had also deemed “unlawful.” The ED seeks to record Kejriwal’s statement regarding the formulation of the policy, pre-finalization meetings, and allegations of bribery.
The ED’s sixth charge sheet, filed on December 2, 2023, named AAP leader Sanjay Singh and his aide Sarvesh Mishra, alleging that the party utilized kickbacks amounting to ₹45 crore from the policy for its 2022 assembly elections campaign in Goa.
Hyderabad :- In a bold move, Telangana’s Drugs Control Administration (DCA) revoked the licenses of two Hyderabad-based blood banks on Monday, 19 February. The action came following the discovery of their involvement in an underground plasma collection racket.
The Srikara Hospital Blood Centre at Madinaguda, Miyapur, and the New Life Educational Society Blood Centre at Darulshifa were the establishments facing the heat from the DCA’s punitive measures. This crackdown was a result of a recent raid in Moosapet on 2 February, where a clandestine plasma collection racket was unearthed.
During the raid at Haemo Service Laboratories in Moosapet, DCA officers discovered a stash of human plasma bags stored in freezers. The plasma, collected from various blood banks, was intended for unauthorized sales.
The DCA’s Director General, VB Kamalasan Reddy, stated, “DCA officers found that Srikara Hospital Blood Bank and New Life Educational Society Blood Centre illegally sold plasma to R Raghavendra Naik of Haemo Service Laboratories, not adhering to the norms.”
Prompt action ensued as DCA officers raided the implicated blood banks, confirming the illegal transactions with Haemo Service Laboratories. Show cause notices were issued to the Srikara Hospital Blood Centre and New Life Educational Society Blood Centre post-inspections.
The DCA emphasized the importance of proper plasma collection and storage, highlighting that plasma must be frozen within six hours of collection to maintain its integrity. Plasma must be stored in freezers at temperatures below -30°C to prevent degradation.
The DCA’s decisive action reflects its commitment to maintaining the integrity of blood banking practices and ensuring public health safety. Violators will face stringent legal action.
Human plasma plays a crucial role in medical treatments, including clotting disorders, immunodeficiency disorders, and critical conditions like severe burns. The illegal sale of plasma poses serious risks to public health and must be met with strict regulatory measures, as seen in this case.

The 83rd edition of the All India Industrial Exhibition Society, fondly known as Numaish, came to a grand conclusion on Sunday, marking the end of a 45-day-long extravaganza. Notably, the Exhibition Society decided to extend the event until February 18, 2024, following requests from traders.
Reports indicate that the 2024 Numaish witnessed an impressive footfall of approximately 20 lakh visitors. The exhibition was inaugurated on January 1 by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, adding to the event’s significance.
This year, the Exhibition Society erected 2,400 stalls to cater to the diverse interests of visitors. Subsequently, in 1946, it shifted to the Exhibition Grounds, becoming an annual tradition. Despite challenges, including the interruptions in 1947 and 1948 due to the aftermath of India’s independence, Numaish has persevered, captivating audiences year after year.

Hyderabad :- Tensions escalated in the Telangana State Legislative Assembly today as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the principal opposition, staged a dramatic walkout following a heated exchange with the treasury benches. The confrontation reached its peak when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched a scathing verbal assault on the BRS and its leader, Chandrashekhar Rao.
The BRS, feeling aggrieved by what they termed as “unparliamentary and intemperate language” used by Revanth Reddy, attempted to counter the onslaught but were allegedly denied the opportunity by the ruling party. In protest, BRS members stormed out of the Assembly chamber.
The commotion erupted when Revanth Reddy persisted in using derogatory language against Chandrashekhar Rao, prompting BRS members to protest vehemently. Despite their efforts, they were unable to fend off the verbal onslaught from the ruling Congress party.
In an unprecedented move, BRS members were also reportedly barred from addressing the media at the Assembly Media Point by marshals, citing a prohibition on speaking to the press during ongoing sessions.
Senior BRS MLA Kadiyam Srihari, whose scheduled speech on the Vote-on-Account budget was interrupted by the tumultuous events, joined party leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao in a subsequent protest near the BRSLP office.
The confrontation stemmed from remarks made by Revanth Reddy during a discussion on the budget, where he aimed to rebut Chandrashekhar Rao’s criticism of the government’s Medigadda visit. BRS members strongly objected to these remarks and demanded an opportunity to respond.
In the ensuing chaos, Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu supported the Chief Minister’s stance, emphasizing that verbal attacks against the Chief Minister were unwarranted from the Leader of the Opposition.
The altercation culminated in a verbal duel between legislators, derailing the proceedings and resulting in the unprecedented walkout by the BRS.
The developments mark a significant escalation in the ongoing political tensions within the Telangana Assembly, raising concerns about the decorum and conduct of parliamentary proceedings.
