Hyderabad, Dec 30: The 46th Indian Geography Congress concluded with a valedictory session highlighting the significance of advancements in space and remote sensing technologies for geospatial applications. Speaking as the Chief Guest, Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), expressed optimism about India’s technological progress. He stated that such advancements would propel India towards becoming a superpower and generate new job opportunities for the youth.
The three-day event, organized by the Department of Geography in collaboration with the National Association of Geographers India (NAGI), took place at the auditorium of Prof. G. Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education (PGRRCDE). An audiovisual presentation showcased the event’s activities during the valedictory session.
Distinguished guests present on the dais included Osmania University Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy, NAGI President-elect Prof. Kumaraswamy, Life Member Prof. Salauddin, Prof. G. Prabhaker Reddy, and NAGI Secretary General Prof. A.K. Saha. The conference was convened and chaired by Prof. Ashok Kumar Lonavath, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Akther Ali serving as Organizing Secretary.
The organizers honored the Chief Guest, guests of honor, and sponsors with mementos and certificates. Young Geographer Award winner Sumathi Mohan of Osmania University was also felicitated, along with awardees Prof. Amit Kumar from Varanasi and Dr. Sujatha Bhattacharya from Mumbai.
Prof. Ashok Kumar Lonavath, in his concluding remarks, reported that the congress received 194 paper submissions and saw participation from 231 delegates representing 27 states. The event included two lead talks and four lectures. He extended his gratitude to students, volunteers, and staff for their invaluable contributions, as well as to the press and media for their extensive coverage.
The organizing committee particularly acknowledged the support of Press Media and Bharat Samachar, presenting a memento and certificate to Mohammad Parveiz, Chairman and Managing Director of the group. Speaking on the occasion, they also expressed their heartfelt deep gratitude for the media’s partnership in making the event a success.
