Muzaffarpur, Bihar – A dramatic rescue unfolded today as flood victims in Bihar saved four Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel after their helicopter, delivering relief supplies, made an emergency landing in the floodwaters of Muzaffarpur. The incident occurred in the Naya Gaon area after the helicopter took off from the Darbhanga Air Force base.
According to detailed reports, the IAF chopper was forced to make an emergency landing due to unforeseen technical difficulties. Upon landing, a portion of the helicopter became submerged in the floodwater, causing concern among locals who quickly sprang into action.
The helicopter, carrying essential relief materials such as food and other supplies for flood-affected regions, had been on a mission to assist people stranded by the ongoing flooding in Bihar. Fortunately, no major injuries occurred, and a disaster was averted.
Local residents, using their boats and cots , rushed to the scene and managed to safely rescue all four IAF personnel onboard, including two pilots. The swift action of the villagers ensured that the crew was safely evacuated from the helicopter and brought to safety. All four personnel were reported safe and unharmed, though they were taken for precautionary medical checkups following the incident.
This marks the second aviation-related accident in India today. Earlier, a private helicopter crashed in Pune, Maharashtra, claiming the lives of three people. The increase in air accidents, following a rise in train accidents in recent times, is raising concern among authorities.
Videos of the incident in Muzaffarpur quickly went viral on social media, clearly showing the helicopter submerged in water and locals working together to rescue the stranded IAF crew. The footage has been widely shared, highlighting the bravery and prompt response of the local community.
District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen confirmed that all four IAF personnel were safe and there were no injuries. He praised the local villagers for their timely assistance in the rescue operation and mentioned that the crew had been taken for medical evaluation as a precautionary measure.
The IAF helicopter was part of ongoing relief efforts in Bihar, where floods have devastated large parts of the state, leaving thousands stranded and in need of urgent assistance. The Indian Air Force has been actively involved in providing aid, including delivering food packets and essential supplies to the worst-affected areas.
With the frequency of aviation accidents seemingly increasing, today’s incidents in both Bihar and Maharashtra have drawn attention to the need for heightened safety protocols in both military and private aviation sectors.
