Nizamabad, September 3, 2024: In response to a severe weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Nizamabad District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including private schools, in the district on Tuesday. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff as the district braces for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
In an official statement released on Monday, Collector Hanumanthu emphasized that the precautionary measure was necessary to prevent children from facing any hardships due to the anticipated heavy rains. Educational institutions across the district have been instructed to remain closed for the day, allowing families to prioritize safety amid the severe weather conditions.
Public Advisory Issued:
In addition to the school closures, local authorities have issued a public advisory, urging residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. With heavy rainfall expected, the officials warned that venturing out could be dangerous, particularly in rural and low-lying areas. Citizens are advised to stay alert and report any emergencies to the relevant authorities immediately.
No Holiday for Hyderabad and Rangareddy Districts:
While Nizamabad prepares for potential downpours, the state government has clarified that there will be no school holidays on Tuesday for students in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. Despite the ongoing rainy spell, authorities have determined that conditions in these areas do not warrant a closure of educational institutions.
Tragic Rain-Related Incident in Hyderabad:
Amid the rain-related concerns, a tragic incident occurred in Hyderabad on Sunday, where a 50-year-old college principal, Srinivas Rao, lost his life due to electrocution. The incident took place in Ghatkesar while Rao was attempting to clear debris during the heavy rainfall. It is believed that a snapped power cable was responsible for the electrocution, highlighting the dangers posed by the severe weather conditions.
As Telangana faces the challenges of the monsoon season, district administrations are taking proactive steps to safeguard citizens, particularly students. While Nizamabad’s educational institutions remain closed as a precaution, other parts of the state continue to monitor the situation closely, balancing the need for normalcy with the importance of safety.
