Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is set to take on the Congress government during the Telangana Assembly session starting Monday, focusing on alleged governance failures and unfulfilled electoral promises. The BRS, led by K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), plans to highlight key issues affecting farmers, tribal communities, and rural development, among others.
BRS Strategy Meeting
Ahead of the session, KCR, the BRS president and Leader of the Opposition, convened a Legislative Party meeting at his residence in Erravelli. During the three-hour-long discussion with MLAs and MLCs, he outlined the party’s strategy for the session.
KCR urged legislators to raise pressing concerns, including:
- Agriculture: Partial implementation of the loan waiver scheme, failure to provide Rythu Bandhu financial support and Rythu Bima insurance, lack of adequate procurement centers, and non-payment of promised bonuses to farmers.
- Identity Issues: He criticized the Congress for its decisions affecting Telangana’s identity, including controversies surrounding the Telangana Thalli statue.
Key Issues to be Raised
Farmers’ Plight
BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress of betraying farmers by failing to fulfill election promises. “Instead of addressing farmers’ issues, the Congress government is celebrating Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu, which is an insult to the farming community,” he said.
Tribal and Dalit Rights
KTR highlighted forced land acquisitions in Kodangal and Sangareddy for proposed Pharma Villages. He questioned the need for additional land acquisition after 14,000 acres were secured for Pharma City. Demanding the release of imprisoned tribal farmers and former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, he called for the cancellation of the project.
Gurukul Welfare Schools
The condition of Gurukul residential welfare schools, which serve Dalit and tribal students, is another priority for the BRS. A report by a BRS team led by former IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar under the “Gurukula Bata” initiative will be presented in the Assembly. KTR accused the Congress of neglecting these schools, jeopardizing students’ futures.
Rural Development
KTR criticized the Congress for stalled rural development, citing unpaid bills and lack of funds for sanitation and other basic needs in gram panchayats. He also pointed out the failure to release the second installment of Dalit Bandhu funds.
BRS Pledges Accountability
KTR pledged that the BRS would act as the voice of Telangana’s marginalized communities and farmers in the legislature. “We will question the government daily on public issues and expose its failures,” he said, promising to scrutinize the Congress government’s six guarantees, 420 promises, and other electoral commitments.
The Assembly session is expected to see heated debates as the BRS seeks to hold the government accountable for its alleged lapses.
