In a recent incident, Ranjana Natchiyar, a Tamil Nadu BJP Functionary and actor, found herself in police custody after a confrontation with an MTC bus driver and school students in Chennai. The incident unfolded near Porur and was captured in a viral video on social media.
The video depicts students precariously hanging onto the footboard of a government bus en route from Kundrathur to Porur. Ranjana Natchiyar, who was passing by in her car, halted the bus and verbally abused the driver for permitting commuters to stand on the footboard. She then proceeded to physically confront the students, pulling them from the footboard and even resorting to violence in some cases.
The MTC bus driver and conductor filed a complaint against BJP functionary Ranjana Natchiyar, leading to her arrest under five sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The charges include slapping minors, abusing them, and obstructing government servants from carrying out their duties.
The incident has sparked a mix of reactions on social media, with some supporting her actions as necessary for the safety of the students, while others question her right to take the law into her own hands and believe that she should have informed the police instead of resorting to physical confrontation.
