Hyderabad, July 14, 2025 — A shocking discovery sent waves of fear and curiosity across the Nampally market area on Monday after human skeletal remains were found inside a house that had reportedly been locked for more than seven years.

The incident came to light when local residents noticed a strong foul smell coming from the abandoned house and immediately informed the Habeeb Nagar police. Officers arrived at the scene, forcibly opened the door, and were stunned to find a complete human skeleton lying inside. Officials are yet to ascertain whether the remains belong to a man or a woman.

A team from the CLUES unit visited the site and collected evidence for further forensic examination. South-West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chandramohan personally inspected the scene and discussed preliminary details with the investigative officers.

According to the police, the remains will be sent for an autopsy and DNA analysis to determine the identity and possible cause of death. Meanwhile, a detailed probe into missing persons’ records from the past decade has been initiated.

This is not the first such chilling incident reported in India. In February 2021, skeletal remains were recovered from a wooden box inside a closed furniture store in Hyderabad after the shop had remained shut for nearly a year. Similarly, in April 2019, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district in Telangana witnessed the recovery of skeletal remains believed to belong to teenage girls from an abandoned agricultural well, shocking the local community.

In more recent cases, in June 2025, skeletal remains of a missing police constable were unearthed from a pit behind a residence in Assam. The constable’s second wife and sons were later arrested on charges of murder and concealing the body. Likewise, in West Bengal the same month, the skeleton of a missing woman was discovered inside her own locked house nearly seven months after she disappeared, highlighting the tragic reality of neglected missing persons’ cases.

Police officials stress that these incidents underline the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activity, especially in cases where houses are left abandoned for long periods.

Currently, Habeeb Nagar police are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with information about the occupants or history of the Nampally house to come forward. Further updates are expected as forensic reports become available.
