Disguised Assailant Thwarted by Supporters; Police Detain Suspect for Questioning

In a startling turn of events, a man masquerading as an advocate launched a shoe towards Swami Prasad Maurya, a leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), during a party event held in Lucknow on Monday. The incident unfolded at the SP’s one-day ‘mahasammelan’ hosted at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.
Fortunately, the shoe missed its intended target, Swami Prasad Maurya, as his vigilant supporters swiftly intervened, restraining the suspected assailant. Reports indicate that the accused individual, identified as Akash Saini, had disguised himself as a lawyer.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Lucknow) Aniandy Vikram Singh informed the press agency PTI that the alleged attacker has been transported to a hospital for medical assessment. Further insights into the incident are anticipated once the accused has been interrogated.
Vibhuti Khand police promptly took Akash Saini into custody following the incident. Party president and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, was scheduled to address the gathering; however, he had not yet arrived at the venue when the shoe-throwing incident occurred.
It is worth noting that Swami Prasad Maurya, a significant figure in the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, transitioned to the Samajwadi Party after parting ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shortly before the 2022 state Assembly elections. This incident adds a new dimension to the political landscape, prompting discussions about the security and environment surrounding political events. Watch the Video
