Hyderabad: In a significant event held at the YMCA Club in Secunderabad on Saturday, K. Shiva Sena Reddy, Chairman of the Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS), along with Dhyan Chand awardee and President of Abbas Union Football Club Shabbir Ali, and Indian football legend Jayakar Daniel, unveiled the team jersey of Abbas Union Football Club (AUFC). Also present were Victor Amalraj, President of Secunderabad YMCA, and other prominent figures from the sports community. This event comes ahead of the I-League 3, scheduled to take place from September 3rd to 11th, 2024, in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.
Abbas Union Football Club will represent Hyderabad and Telangana in the upcoming I-League 3 for the 2024-25 season, a national-level football league. The club has been placed in Group E, where they will compete against teams such as Downtown Heroes FC (Srinagar), CVM Football Club (Gujarat), Corbett FC (Uttarakhand), and Southern Sporting Union (Manipur). The top team from each group will progress to the final round.
Speaking at the event, SATS Chairman K. Shiva Sena Reddy emphasized the organization’s commitment to making football the number one sport in Telangana. He announced plans to make Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Basheerbagh and Gachibowli Stadium more accessible to local football players competing at district and state levels.
Reddy also highlighted the support of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, a former football player and enthusiast, in the renovation of Gachibowli Stadium to meet FIFA standards. He noted that the state government has invested approximately ₹15 crores in this project, further underscoring their dedication to the sport’s development in the region.
As Abbas Union FC prepares to take on the challenge of the I-League 3, the unveiling of the team jersey marks a significant step in their journey, reflecting the growing enthusiasm and support for football in Telangana.
