Ahmedabad: Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, asserted during a party workers’ convention that the Congress will defeat the BJP in Gujarat, akin to their recent victory in Ayodhya during the Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing the gathering, Gandhi condemned recent clashes outside the Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Congress’s state headquarters in Ahmedabad’s Paldi area. He emphasized that despite challenges and threats, the Congress remains united and determined to oust the BJP government in Gujarat.
Gandhi also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the BJP’s defeat in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, where Ayodhya is situated. He accused Modi of neglecting local sentiments during the Ram Mandir inauguration and claimed the PM considered contesting from Ayodhya but was dissuaded by advisors fearing defeat.
The incident outside the Congress office on July 2 resulted in injuries to several policemen amidst stone-pelting between Congress and BJP members protesting Gandhi’s remarks on Hindus.
