Hyderabad : Mosques, Islamic schools, and Sufi centers, vital pillars of the Muslim community, are increasingly becoming targets of prejudiced elements. This concern was raised by Hazrat Maulana Khalilullah, Ameer of Jamia Nizamia, during the 110th Annual Urs of Sheikh-ul-Islam Imam Muhammad Anwarullah Farooqi (RA). He emphasized the conspiracies aimed at undermining Islamic values and the sanctity of the Quran and urged vigilance among scholars and followers.
Reflecting on Jamia Nizamia’s 153-year legacy, Maulana Khalilullah recounted its foundation in 1875 under Islamic governance, enjoying royal patronage. Despite numerous challenges, the institution has remained resilient, producing scholars who continue to contribute to Islamic education worldwide.
2024 Academic Achievements
The annual educational report highlighted significant milestones:
- Examinations: 9,078 students appeared, with 332 completing Quran memorization.
- New Programs: Admissions into PhD programs and active enrollment of 3,141 undergraduate and postgraduate students were noted.
Key Department Expansions
Jamia Nizamia has enhanced its efforts in disseminating Islamic knowledge by expanding four major departments:
- Department of Translation
- Department of Oral Studies
- Islamic Research Center
- Department of Modern Studies
New faculty members, including senior and assistant scholars, were inducted, aligning with the vision of Sheikh-ul-Islam.
Gold Medals and Honors
Outstanding students were recognized at the convocation:
- Sheikh-ul-Islam Gold Medal: Sheikh Tahir bin Sheikh Noor Alam (Sponsored by Buzm-e-Tariq, Jeddah).
- Shah Waliullah Gold Medal: Syeda Umm-e-Maqsud Fatima bint Syed Salahuddin (Sponsored by Sufi Khanqah, Sikandarabad).
- Shah Abdul Qadir Gold Medal: Muhammad Farhan Barkatullah (Sponsored by Sufi Khanqah, Sikandarabad).
- Maulana Ghulam Ahmad Memorial Gold Medal: Muhammad Kaleemuddin Bashir for excellence in Islamic jurisprudence.
Gold medals for female students will be distributed during the Kulliyat-ul-Banat session.
Annual Financial Report
Maulana Ahmad Kaleemuddin Khan presented the financial report, emphasizing Jamia Nizamia’s self-reliance, supported by endowments and contributions from benefactors. The institution ensures transparency through audits by certified accountants and offers tax benefits to donors.
Speeches and Cultural Presentations
Students delivered speeches in Urdu, Arabic, and English, showcasing their command of classical and modern Islamic knowledge. The ceremony concluded with a soulful recitation of the Qasida Burda Sharif.
