Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Announces Major Reforms for Police Personnel

In a significant move, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared a substantial increase in the group insurance amount for police personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty. The insurance amount has been raised from Rs 20 lakhs to a commendable Rs 50 lakhs. This announcement was made during a poignant Police Remembrance Day event at Martyrs’ Park on Mysore Road.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the pivotal role played by the police force in upholding the state’s dignity and facilitating governmental operations. He underscored the direct correlation between law and order and economic development, asserting that a secure environment fosters investment, job creation, and rapid progress. Siddaramaiah asserted, “Proper law and order are instrumental in boosting development and increasing per capita income, benefiting every citizen.”

Addressing the challenges posed by advancing technology, he acknowledged the rising menace of cybercrimes. He urged the police department to adapt effectively to counter these emerging threats. The Chief Minister also expressed deep concern about the proliferation of fake news, emphasizing its adverse impact on societal harmony and economic stability. He called for equal treatment for all citizens and stern action against purveyors of misinformation.

In a bid to enhance public safety, Siddaramaiah announced several measures, including the creation of additional police posts and specialized units focused on women’s safety and traffic management. A substantial allocation of Rs 100 crore was earmarked for the procurement of new police vehicles. Additionally, the Chief Minister pledged Rs. 450 crore for the construction of 2,125 houses for police personnel and allocated Rs. 100 crore for their healthcare benefits.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, Siddaramaiah shared plans to establish seven police public schools in various districts, ensuring quality education for the children of police personnel. The Chief Minister also revealed the initiation of police canteens, aiming to cater to the needs of the police force.

The Chief Minister’s announcements were met with approval and support from State Home Minister G. Parameshwar, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Naseer Ahmed, Chief Secretary to the Government Vandita Sharma, State Director General of Police Alok Mohan, and other heads of the Police Department, who joined in paying heartfelt floral tributes to the fallen heroes of the force.

This proactive stance by the Karnataka government marks a significant stride towards bolstering the morale and well-being of the state’s dedicated police personnel, ensuring their security and fostering a safer environment for all citizens.
