Hyderabad, January 16, 2025: Hyderabad-based startup SVAG Pet Homes LLP has pioneered a unique concept in India called Barkitecture, bringing designer homes, villas, pods, and furniture exclusively for dogs. Barkitecture, an architectural approach tailored for pets, is revolutionizing pet care and interiors.
Addressing a press conference at FTCCI, the startup unveiled its latest Barkkey Villas, Barkkey Pods, and Barkkey Furniture, setting a new trend in the pet industry. Founders Sushanth Kanneganti, Vishal Bothra, and Co-founders Gopal Varma and Anudeep Y showcased the innovative products aimed at redefining pet comfort.
Barkitecture: A Growing Trend in Pet InteriorsPost-pandemic, pet adoption, particularly of dogs, has surged, leading to a rise in pet parenting. The concept of Barkitecture is gaining momentum, integrating pet-friendly designs into homes to cater to the specific needs of dogs. According to Vishal Bothra, pet owners now consider their dogs as family members, seeking customized and designer spaces for their furry companions.
Barkkey – A Transformation in Pet LivingSVAG Pet Homes’ Barkkey range aims to transform traditional kennels into personalized havens of comfort. The startup believes every dog deserves a dedicated, comfortable space to rest and recharge. With a manufacturing facility in Aramgarh, Hyderabad, Barkkey offers 25 SKUs and plans to introduce 50 more designs soon.
The company, a bootstrapped venture, has invested INR 1.8 crore in product development. Barkkey products are available online at www.barkkey.com, Amazon, and Instagram (barkkey.india). Prices range from ₹15,000 to ₹5 lakh, with a sales target of one lakh furniture pieces in the next year.
Barkkey Foundation – Promoting Responsible Pet ParentingAlongside its product launch, the startup has also introduced the Barkkey Foundation, which focuses on responsible pet parenting and stray dog welfare. Hyderabad alone has over 4 lakh stray dogs, and the foundation aims to support them through various initiatives. A key program, B-Bowl, ensures street dogs have access to food and care. Profits from product sales will be used to support ten street dogs, and the startup is inviting volunteers to join its cause.
India’s Growing Pet Industry – A Booming MarketIndia’s pet population stood at 38 million in 2023, with 34 million dogs. The pet industry is experiencing 9% annual growth (2022–2027), with spending reaching $3.6 billion in 2024, a sharp rise from $1.6 billion in 2019.
Pet startups are thriving, with major players like Heads Up for Tails (₹400 crore turnover), Supertails (₹228 crore), Wiggles (₹60 crore), and Just Dogs (₹59 crore). The pet care market is currently valued at ₹5,000 crore, with projects worth ₹10,000 crore expected across India by 2028.
Future OutlookThe founders believe Barkitecture, a Western trend, is gaining rapid acceptance in India. Given the country’s growing pet population, they foresee strong demand for their products. However, they currently have no expansion plans beyond dog-related products, as they aim to fully explore the Indian market before diversifying.
With Barkkey, SVAG Pet Homes is set to revolutionize the way pet owners care for their beloved dogs, blending luxury with functionality to create a better living space for man’s best friend.
