Hyderabad, September 5, 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has forecasted four consecutive days of heavy rainfall across several districts of Telangana, starting today. According to the IMD, the state is set to experience intense rain showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls, posing potential risks in various regions.
An orange alert has been issued for Thursday, signaling the likelihood of severe weather conditions. The IMD warns of “very heavy rainfall” that could result in localized flooding and disruptions to daily life. Thunderstorms and squalls are also expected to accompany the downpours, heightening the potential for damage in some areas.
Recent monsoon data shows that parts of Telangana have already recorded above-average rainfall this season. Districts like Adilabad, Khammam, and Nizamabad have experienced over 30% more rain than the usual monsoon average. The ongoing heavy rains are expected to further increase these numbers, with some areas at risk of waterlogging and flash floods.
From Friday onwards, the alert status will be downgraded to yellow, indicating the continuation of heavy rainfall but with slightly less intensity. The yellow alert will remain in effect through Sunday, urging citizens to stay cautious and take preventive measures against potential hazards.
In Hyderabad, the IMD has forecasted rains or thundershowers in all zones of the city until the weekend, accompanied by gusty winds. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather reports and take necessary precautions, as the storms may cause disruptions in daily routines, including traffic and outdoor activities.
Authorities have been alerted to ensure safety measures are in place, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
