Rajendranagar Leads with 68.3 mm Rainfall, Banjara Hills and Nampally Follow Closely

Hyderabad: — Hyderabad was once again drenched by heavy rainfall late Wednesday night, as several parts of the city experienced significant downpours. The nighttime showers are part of a continuing trend of monsoon activity that has intensified over the past few weeks.
According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), rainfall varied across different parts of the city, with Rajendranagar receiving the heaviest downpour, recording 68.3 mm of rain over the past 24 hours. Banjara Hills followed closely with 64.3 mm, while Nampally saw 62.5 mm of rain.
Several other areas also experienced substantial rainfall, including Shaikpet, Asifnagar, and Khairatabad. The rainfall in these regions ranged from 56.3 mm at Gananaka Bhavan in Khairatabad to 51.8 mm in Asifnagar. Moderate showers were also reported in Malakpet, Dabeerpura, Mehdipatnam, Borabanda, Attapur, LB Nagar, and Saroornagar.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has forecasted continued monsoon activity, predicting more rain over the next few days. With monsoon clouds still hovering over the region, the IMD has issued an advisory for local residents, urging them to be prepared for intermittent showers, especially during nighttime hours.
Impact on City Life and Infrastructure
The overnight rains caused waterlogging in low-lying areas, leading to traffic disruptions during the early morning hours. Commuters in areas like Attapur, LB Nagar, and Mehdipatnam faced challenges as roads became slippery, and in some places, water levels rose, affecting vehicular movement.
Despite the heavy rain, the city’s drainage system appeared to manage the situation better than during previous downpours. However, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been placed on alert to monitor water accumulation and address any potential flooding risks, especially in areas that are prone to waterlogging.
IMD’s Forecast and Advisory
The IMD’s forecast for Hyderabad indicates that the city can expect more rain in the coming days. The department has urged people to stay cautious, particularly at night when the showers are expected to be heaviest. Citizens are advised to avoid venturing out unnecessarily during peak rainfall hours and to keep an eye on weather updates from the IMD.
As Hyderabad continues to experience monsoon activity, the GHMC and other civic bodies have been asked to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures to prevent any disruptions caused by the persistent rains.
