Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has dismissed allegations of irregularities in the MUDA site allotment to his wife, B.M. Parvathi. He emphasized that the land transfer followed all legal procedures and pointed out that the BJP was in power when his wife was allocated the plots in 2021.

The Lokayukta police have registered an FIR against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following accusations of irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment to his wife, B.M. Parvathi. This action was taken after a special court for People’s Representatives ordered a detailed investigation into the matter. The FIR names Siddaramaiah as the primary accused, with his wife Parvathi and Bamaida Mallikarjunaswamy listed as secondary accused.
The allegations stem from Siddaramaiah’s previous tenure as Chief Minister, with claims that he misused his authority in the allotment of land. Concerns were raised about the allocation of 14 premium sites to Parvathi by MUDA, prompting an investigation initiated by Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot.
On September 25, a special court directed the Lokayukta police to investigate under provisions related to corruption, benami properties, and land grabbing, giving the police three months to submit their findings. This development followed the Karnataka High Court’s dismissal of Siddaramaiah’s plea challenging the legality of the Governor’s approval of the investigation.
Siddaramaiah has strongly denied any wrongdoing and asserted that the case is politically motivated. “I have done no wrong. This is the first time a political case has been registered against me. Please underline that this is political,” he stated. He also emphasized that he would not step down from his position as Chief Minister despite the growing pressure.
The BJP-led Opposition, along with several activists, has alleged that the Chief Minister and his wife benefitted from an illegal land deal, claiming irregularities totaling Rs 4,000 crore. The accusations center around MUDA’s 50:50 land allotment scheme, introduced in November 2020 and scrapped by Siddaramaiah in 2023. According to this scheme, landowners were to receive 50 percent of the developed sites, with the remaining half retained by MUDA.
Activists have accused Siddaramaiah’s wife of receiving 14 alternative sites in 2022 in violation of the scheme’s norms. The land, originally gifted to her in 2010, was acquired by MUDA for development, and the alternative sites she received were allegedly in more valuable localities, increasing the value of the assets.
Siddaramaiah has dismissed the allegations, stating that the transfer of the land to his wife followed legal procedures. He also pointed out that the BJP was in power when his wife was allocated the plots in 2021.
The Lokayukta investigation is expected to provide more clarity on the case in the coming months.
