In preparation for the vote counting scheduled on June 4, the Election Commission (EC) has enforced Section 144 across all poll counting centers nationwide. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar oversaw the final arrangements via video conference from the EC headquarters in New Delhi, emphasizing the swift and accurate announcement of results, guided by the Election Results Management Group.
To ensure peaceful proceedings in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena announced the deployment of 20 companies of central paramilitary forces. These measures aim to prevent any disturbances during the counting process. Meena highlighted the importance of continuous surveillance in sensitive areas prone to electoral violence, urging officials to act promptly against potential threats.
The Election Commission has mandated thorough checks of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) devices for accuracy before counting begins. Additionally, provisions for uninterrupted power supply and backup infrastructure, including generators and fire safety equipment, have been ensured.
In response to recent incidents of polling violence, the EC has implemented stringent security protocols across counting centers. Three-tier security arrangements, along with closed-circuit cameras in polling booths and control rooms, are in place to closely monitor activities. Surprise inspections of polling centers will occur twice daily to maintain order. Officials have identified tense districts and committed to proactive measures to uphold law and order.
The Election Commission is dedicated to conducting smooth and swift counting operations. Any incidents of unrest or violence will be addressed promptly to preserve the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.
