“New Telangana DGP Appointed”
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has appointed Dr. Jitender, a 1992 batch IPS officer, as the new Director General of Police (DGP). This decision, reportedly made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is expected to be officially announced today.
The announcement was initially scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed due to CM Revanth Reddy’s visit to Mahbubnagar district. Dr. Jitender, currently serving as the Principal Secretary of the Home Department and holding the position of DGP, also has additional responsibilities as the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement.
Dr. Jitender will replace the current DGP, Ravi Gupta, upon the completion of the official announcement. Gupta took charge as DGP in December 2023 following the suspension of the then incumbent DGP, Anjani Kumar, by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for meeting Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy while election counting was ongoing.
The appointment of Dr. Jitender as the new DGP is a significant step in the state’s law enforcement leadership and is expected to bring positive changes to the police administration. Dr. Jitender will be the first DGP appointed by the government since the Congress party came to power in the state.
