Wanaparthy: In a shocking incident, a house owner in Janampet village, under Srirangapur mandal, discovered a crocodile near his bathroom early Tuesday morning.

Rescue Operation: The forest officials, in collaboration with Sagar Snake Society volunteers, successfully trapped the crocodile after a five-hour rescue operation and released it into the River Krishna at Beechupally.

Discovery: Around 3:45 am, Naganna, the house owner, was awakened by the persistent barking of street dogs. He found the crocodile, which likely entered from the nearby Ramasamudram rivulet, driven into the house by stray dogs.

Response: Naganna immediately called 108, which alerted the forest officials and Sagar Snake Society. Beat constable Ramesh, along with a team led by Krishna Sagar, a Home Guard and founder of the Sagar Snake Society, arrived at the scene.

Rescue Details: The team first covered the crocodile’s snout with a cloth to block its visibility and then tied it with a rope to prevent any attacks. The crocodile was then transported in a gram panchayat tractor and released into the river.

Seasonal Influx: Krishna Sagar explained that during the monsoon, the downstream flow of the River Krishna through the Almatti and Narayanpur projects in Karnataka sweeps about 300 to 400 crocodiles into the agricultural fields of villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Spotted deer and blackbucks also appear in large numbers during this period as water levels rise.
