Hyderabad, – The stage is set for the inaugural meeting of the revamped Congress Working Committee (CWC) commencing in Hyderabad this Saturday. The CWC, the apex decision-making body of the Congress party, is poised to deliberate and formulate an electoral strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

This pivotal meeting, hosted at a prestigious hotel, will assess the state of readiness for the impending Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram. Chaired by party President Mallikarjun Kharge, the 84-member CWC will convene in the afternoon, boasting attendance from all CWC members, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The meeting will also deliberate on strategies for the 2024 general elections, given the formation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), a united front to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Friday, disclosed the meeting’s agenda, which includes discussions on election preparedness and the INDIA alliance. He stated, “The country’s atmosphere has undergone a significant transformation. People are eagerly anticipating the INDIA alliance. The nation realizes that the Narendra Modi government must be replaced.”

According to the party’s schedule, the CWC will continue its deliberations on Sunday, September 17, with an extended session involving all state party chiefs and Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leaders. Venugopal revealed that over 140 leaders, including Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, will be in attendance. Additionally, a mega public rally near Hyderabad on September 17 will unveil five guarantees for the Telangana Assembly election. The top leadership will address the rally, coinciding with the anniversary of Hyderabad State’s accession to the Indian Union on September 17.

Following the public gathering, Congress President will lead a convoy of CWC members, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Presidents, and CLP leaders on a tour of Telangana’s 119 Assembly constituencies, culminating in a night stay and participation in local party activities on September 18.

The leaders will partake in door-to-door distribution of the five guarantees and a charge sheet against the current government. They will also share a community lunch with influencers and participate in the Bharat Jodo March in the evening. Venugopal expressed confidence that the CWC meeting and subsequent programs will significantly influence Telangana’s political landscape. He assured that the guarantees announced during the public rally would be implemented within one month of the party coming to power in Telangana.

Venugopal maintained that the Congress party is poised to win elections in all five states and criticized the current government in Telangana for alleged corruption and mismanagement, asserting that the state has become the most corrupt in the nation.

In response to another query, he reiterated that the BJP remains the principal adversary of the Congress throughout India and criticized parties, including KCR’s, that have supported the BJP government in instances of anti-democratic legislation.

Senior Congress leader and CWC member Jairam Ramesh highlighted the historic nature of this CWC meeting, extending its duration to three days, contrasting with the typical 4-6 hour meetings held in Delhi. Over 150 leaders will attend the event.

Congress MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy hailed the significance of the CWC meeting and the forthcoming public rally, labeling them historic events. This marks the first CWC meeting in Hyderabad, where the city is hosting a major party event after more than 15 years.
