Sircilla, August 12 — BRS Working President KT Rama Rao announced on Monday that the party will form a committee to address issues in the State’s Gurukuls. The committee, chaired by BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar, will review conditions at approximately 20 Gurukuls and submit its findings within five days. Praveen Kumar, known for his role in the development of these institutions, will oversee the examination of facilities and recommend improvements for student welfare.

Rama Rao’s announcement followed a visit to the family of Class VI student Anirudh, who recently died at the Peddapur Gurukul in Jagtial district. The BRS delegation extended their condolences to the family in Racharlaboppapur of Yellareddypet mandal.

Rama Rao highlighted a troubling trend, noting that 36 students have died over the past eight months—some due to food poisoning, others from snakebites, and several under suspicious circumstances. During this period, around 500 students required hospitalization due to toxic or stale food. He urged the State government to provide support to the affected families and take preventive measures to avoid future incidents, emphasizing that the issue should not be politicized.

Rama Rao stressed the importance of quality food in Gurukuls, citing improvements made under the previous BRS government at IIIT Basara. He called for surprise inspections by Collectors and officials to ensure cleanliness and food quality at social welfare hostels. He also reiterated the need for the State government to act as a guardian for the six and a half lakh students residing in government hostels, ensuring their safety and well-being.
