Osmania University Set to Transform into Closed Campus, New Link Road to Redirect Traffic

0

“Osmania University stands as a historic beacon of education and knowledge, a testament to the rich cultural and academic heritage of Hyderabad.”

The expansive Osmania University campus is poised to become a closed campus, barring vehicular traffic from its premises.

Plans are underway to construct a new link road encircling the campus, connecting the Vidyanagar-Amberpet side with Adikmet and Tarnaka.

This strategic road development will redirect commuters away from the campus main road, effectively closing it off.

The university administration’s persistent efforts to establish a closed campus received a significant boost when MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao declared the immediate sanctioning of the Adikmet link road.

This decision was prompted by a request from OU Vice Chancellor Prof D Ravinder during an event at Nizam College.

The proposed link road, estimated to cost Rs 16.50 crore, is slated to stretch from the Adikmet flyover, passing through the ECE Department and Andhra Mahila Sabha, and concluding near the NCC Gate of the university. Presently, the campus main road permits passage between 6 am and 8 pm. With the advent of the link road, vehicular thoroughfare on campus will cease, resulting in a fully closed campus, as articulated by Prof Ravinder.

An official stated that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) intended to initiate repair work on the Adikmet flyover and had sought the university’s consent to construct alternate temporary roads until the repair work’s completion.

“We have proposed a permanent four-way road running parallel to the railway track via the Adikmet flyover, terminating at the NCC Gate. The estimated length is about 1.2 km, and suitable land has been identified for this purpose,” the official said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing critique against the Union government on Saturday, condemning its decision to remove the Chief Justice of India from the committee responsible for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs).

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the chief minister accused the BJP of embracing anarchy over respecting the judiciary. “In the face of calls to uphold judicial integrity, @BJP4India opts for chaos!” Mamata Banerjee expressed in her message.

Stressing the pivotal role played by the Chief Justice of India in the committee of three tasked with selecting the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners, she vehemently objected to replacing the CJI with a member of the Union cabinet.

She further asserted that this move underscores the BJP’s unease, possibly stemming from apprehensions about the integrity of their voting procedures.

The chief minister passionately urged the nation to question this audacious disregard for the judiciary. She inquired whether the BJP aims to transform the judiciary into a court manipulated by government officials.

She concluded her post by beseeching the judiciary to safeguard the nation. “My lord, save our country!” read the chief minister’s concluding remarks.

“Crucial Talks with Central Congress Leader Open Path for YSRTP-Congress Merger”

YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), led by Y.S. Sharmila, is on the brink of merging with the Congress party following the removal of all obstacles, an insider revealed to IANS on Friday.

Sharmila, after her visit to Delhi where she held discussions with a prominent central leader of the Congress, returned to Hyderabad on Friday night.

Despite remaining reticent when confronted by the awaiting media personnel, reliable sources affirmed that the path has been cleared for the YSRTP’s assimilation into the Congress. During her stay in Delhi over the past few days, Sharmila engaged in deliberations with Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal.

While speculations have been rife about the merger between YSRTP and Congress for several months, this marks the first instance of Sharmila engaging with a central figure of the party. Being the daughter of the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, a prominent Congress leader and former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Sharmila’s integration is anticipated to fortify the Congress party’s morale ahead of the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections scheduled for the end of the year.

Sharmila, who is the sibling of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has unequivocally communicated her disinterest in Andhra Pradesh politics, committing to a focus on Telangana.

She has already declared her intention to contest from the Paleru constituency in Khammam district. In the midst of these developments, Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy affirmed his welcome of Sharmila’s induction into the party. Traveling alongside Sharmila to Hyderabad, he conveyed that he extended an invitation to YSR’s daughter to join the Congress during their flight interaction. “I have extended an invitation to the late YSR’s daughter to join the Congress party,” he conveyed to the press.

From Suspension to Social Media: Raghav Chadha’s Bold Response in 3-Minute Video

BJP Unable to Tolerate 34-Year-Old’s Challenge, Raghav Chadha Updates X Bio as ‘Suspended MP’

In a concise three-minute video message, Chadha expressed that the BJP seemed uneasy with the fact that a 34-year-old was challenging the supremacy of the world’s largest political party.

He highlighted that they were attempting to tarnish his reputation as an MP by falsely alleging signature forgery.

Chadha questioned his suspension from Rajya Sabha, pondering if his fault was merely questioning prominent leaders within the BJP and advocating for justice and accountability. He emphasized that he had held up a mirror to the party’s manifesto, urging them to follow the ideology of Advani and Vajpayee.

He questioned whether the BJP’s discomfort arose from his assertive parliamentary presence and probing questions. Characterizing the BJP’s top leadership as potent, Raghav acknowledged the issuance of two notices from the Privilege Committee within a week, perhaps a record. He lamented the stifling of Opposition voices in the House, recounting the suspension of three Aam Aadmi Party MPs, including himself, during the monsoon session.

Raghav noted this as an unprecedented instance of suspending the leader of the major Opposition, Congress.

He proclaimed his association with the legacy of Bhagat Singh, vowing to appear before the committee to seek justice.

Raghav noted that the Privilege Committee had previously acted against significant leaders, underscoring that such actions could also be directed towards AAP leaders. He refuted the BJP’s claim of signature forgery, clarifying that MPs could propose names for select committees without requiring signatures. He resolved to confront the situation courageously and stand up to these challenges.

In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party leaders echoed support for Chadha, highlighting the Centre’s tendency to suppress dissenting voices.

Chadha’s suspension, they argued, followed a pattern of stifling those who raised concerns against the government’s actions. On X, previously known as Twitter, Chadha updated his bio to “Suspended Member of Parliament” following his suspension from Rajya Sabha. The suspension was due to allegations of “gross violation of rules, misconduct, defiant attitude, and contemptuous conduct,” pending a report by the privileges committee.

The Telangana High Court on Friday granted time till Monday for the TSPSC to respond on the issue pertaining to postponement of Group II examination.

Justice P Madhavi Devi was dealing with a writ plea filed by D Mahesh and 149 other aspirants seeking Court directions for rescheduling the Group II examinations which was proposed to be held on August 29 and 30.

Petitioners said that a total of 21 examinations including Gurukula Teacher and Polytechnic exams are being conducted in month of August only and that they don’t have sufficient time to deal with all the exams at once.

The government pleader on the other hand submitted that out of the 5.5 lakh candidates applied for the Group II exam only 60 thousand candidates are appearing for Gurukula Exam.

He also said all the arrangements were made for conducting the exam in 1535 centres.

In all those 1535 schools and colleges, holidays were declared on respective dates and it would be difficult to reschedule the exam, the government pleader said.

However, in the existing situation we are reconsidering the issue, he said and sought time for conveying the decision to Court. Conceding with the request of the government pleader, the judge adjourned the case to Monday.
