Historic Triumph: Spain Secures Maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup Glory by Edging Past England 1-0

Sydney, August 20, 2023 – Spain’s women’s national soccer team secured a historic victory in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 final against England, winning 1-0 in a closely contested match.

The decisive moment of the game arrived in the first half when Spain’s captain, Olga Carmona, found the back of the net with a left-footed strike, capitalizing on a well-timed pass from Mariona Caldentey. The goal proved to be the solitary difference in a high-stakes encounter.

The early moments of the match saw both teams trying to overcome nerves and find their rhythm. Spain gradually gained control of possession, dictating the flow of the game. England, on the other hand, attempted to build play from the back, and their efforts came close to fruition when Lauren Hemp’s left-footed attempt hit the crossbar after an assist from Rachel Daly.

Spain had their own chance shortly after, as Alba Redonda met a dangerous cross with a first-time shot, only to be denied by English goalkeeper Mary Earps.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Olga Carmona executed a skillful left-footed shot from inside the box, putting Spain in the lead. The celebration that followed paid homage to Andres Iniesta’s memorable goal in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final.

During halftime, England’s coach, Sarina Wiegman, made tactical changes, introducing Lauren James and Choe Kelly. Kelly’s immediate impact was evident when she delivered a precise cross to Lauren Hemp, whose effort narrowly missed the target.

Spain’s manager, Jorge Vilda, also made a substitution, bringing in Oihane Hernandez for Alba Redonda. Spain’s hopes of extending their lead were boosted when they were awarded a penalty after a VAR review for a handball by an English defender. However, Jennifer Hermoso’s penalty was saved by Mary Earps, giving England a lifeline.

As the game entered injury time, Lauren James attempted a shot from a tight angle, but Spanish goalkeeper Cata Coll made a crucial save, tipping the ball over the bar.

Despite a last-ditch effort signaled by 13 additional minutes of play, England was unable to find an equalizer. Spain held on to their lead, clinching their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup title in history. The victory marks a significant milestone for Spanish women’s soccer, solidifying their position on the global stage

Crucial Decision Made Eight Months Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Raipur, August 20, 2023 : In a significant reconfiguration of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), party president Mallikarjun Kharge announced the appointment of leaders Shashi Tharoor and Sachin Pilot, among 28 others, as members of the committee responsible for critical decision-making within the party.

This crucial decision, made eight months ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, emerged from the 85th Plenary Session of the Indian National Congress held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, spanning from February 24-26.

It’s noteworthy that Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh had elucidated during the plenary sessions that the party had collectively resolved to abstain from conducting elections for the CWC. Instead, President Kharge would exclusively oversee the appointment process.

While the Congress constitution stipulates that 12 out of the 24 CWC members should be elected, the election mechanism has largely been bypassed due to a prevalent culture of strong nominations within the party. Notably, the defunct G23 had previously advocated for elections in two pivotal bodies—the CWC and the Central Election Committee, responsible for selecting candidates for assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Party insiders suggested that proponents of nomination asserted that holding elections could hinder the implementation of the proposed 50% quota, a crucial policy aiming to enhance inclusivity within the party’s highest executive body. Ramesh confirmed that this policy alteration would be executed through amendments in the party’s constitution.

In the revised list of the Congress Working Committee, Rajasthan’s representation includes Jitendra Singh, Sachin Pilot, and Mahendra Jit Singh Malviya as CWC members.

Concurrently, Harish Chaudhary, overseeing Punjab, has also been appointed as a CWC member. The distinguished roster features prominent Congress leaders such as Shashi Tharoor, Naseer Hussain, Alka Lamba, Supriya Shrinate, Praniti Shinde, Pawan Kheda, Ganesh Godial, and Yashomati Thakur.

Seeking Resolution: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar calls for political collaboration to find a solution to the longstanding issue involving Karnataka and Tamil Nadu

Bengaluru, August 20, 2023: In a bid to address the long-standing water dispute related to the Cauvery River (also known as Kaveri), the Karnataka state government has announced an all-party meeting scheduled for August 23. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar informed the media about this initiative on Sunday.

The meeting aims to bring together various political parties along with senior Parliament members to deliberate and potentially find a solution to the contentious issue involving Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Cauvery River has been a source of disputes and conflicts between the two states for decades.

We have called this all-party meeting on water disputes related to Cauvery; it is scheduled for Wednesday, August 23rd. I have also extended invitations to senior Parliament members to participate in the meeting. Our goal is to seek a resolution to this matter,” stated Deputy CM DK Shivakumar during his press briefing.

The recent decision by the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA), instructing Karnataka to release 10,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu over the next 15 days, has raised concerns due to the ongoing water scarcity faced by Karnataka.

We are aware of the dire water crisis the state is currently undergoing. Despite this, we have complied with the Supreme Court’s directive and released water from the Cauvery in the past few days. However, we appeal to the authority to reconsider this decision, as it could directly impact the availability of drinking water here in Karnataka,” emphasized Deputy CM Shivakumar.

Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, weighing in on the matter, criticized the Congress government for not adequately representing the plight of farmers from the Cauvery river basin to the CWMA.

The Congress government has betrayed our farmers, particularly those in the Cauvery river basin. They failed to advocate for our case before the CWMA. It is now their responsibility to stand up for our farmers in the Supreme Court and present our case based on its merits. Surrendering water to Tamil Nadu without a strong fight is a betrayal to our farmers,” commented former CM Bommai.

The Cauvery River originates in Karnataka and traverses through Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry before eventually flowing into the Bay of Bengal. The river’s basin covers a significant area across these states, making the dispute over water sharing a complex and longstanding issue.

As the all-party meeting approaches, stakeholders are hopeful that constructive dialogues will pave the way for a fair resolution to the Cauvery water dispute.

“True education knows no bias; when discrimination taints the pursuit of knowledge, the essence of learning is lost to the darkness of ignorance.”

Gujarat : A recent incident at Shri K. T. Patel Smriti Vidyalaya in Mehsana district has raised concerns over religious bias in educational institutions. Arnazbanu, a high-achieving Muslim student, was left disappointed after being denied an award at the school’s Independence Day function. Despite securing the top position in Class 10 with an impressive 87% score, she was not given the recognition she deserved.

Arnaz banu’s father, Sanwar Khan, expressed his disappointment, saying, “My daughter informed us that the award meant for her was given to a student who secured the second position. I engaged with school authorities and teachers seeking an explanation, but their responses were vague. While they promise the reward will be presented on January 26, my question remains – why wasn’t it granted on August 15 ?

The school’s principal, Bipin Patel, denied any discrimination and stated, “Our school strictly opposes all forms of discrimination. The deserving student will certainly receive her reward on January 26th. It’s noteworthy that she was absent on the scheduled day, which affected the presentation.

Sanwar Khan contested this, asserting, “My daughter did attend school that day, contrary to what the principal claims. The school has CCTV cameras, which can provide the necessary clarification.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media platforms, with activists and citizens expressing their discontent. The incident highlights ongoing challenges related to religious bias in educational institutions and underscores the importance of equal treatment and recognition for all students’ achievements.

This controversy serves as a reminder that despite progress, issues of discrimination and bias continue to persist, impacting students’ experiences in schools across the country.

Mob Lynching Continues Despite Supreme Court Orders, Muslim Youth Brutally Killed in Alwar, Rajasthan.

0

“India is touching the sky, has reached the moon, but on the earth, hatred is not showing any signs of stopping.”

In defiance of the strict directives issued by the Supreme Court, the disturbing trend of mob lynching in Rajasthan remains unabated.

From Pehlu Khan’s murder in 2017 to the present, cases of mob lynching continue to plague Alwar district. Once again, a tragic case of mob lynching has come to light, this time from Alwar, Rajasthan.

In this incident, a young Muslim man was brutally assaulted and killed, while two of his companions also suffered injuries.

Reported by “The Hindu” on August 17, the incident took place in the Ramgarh area of Tehsil Bansur. A mob attacked these individuals on the suspicion that they were involved in cutting trees within the forest.

The attackers comprised local villagers, and it was revealed that even forest officials were complicit in the incident.

The victim, identified as a 27-year-old named Wasim, sustained severe injuries during the assault. He was rushed to Kothputli’s government hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Wasim was driving a pickup jeep at the time of the incident, accompanied by his cousin Asif and friend Azharuddin. The family of Wasim alleges that a mob near the village of Narol intercepted their jeep, subjecting them to a violent attack and causing extensive damage to the vehicle. On the other hand, accusations have been made against the deceased and his companions, claiming they were engaged in unauthorized activities such as woodcutting and firewood collection.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, Wasim’s family further asserts that forest officials were openly involved in the assault against all three victims. Allegedly, these officials supported the villagers and participated in the assault, using weapons like sharp-edged tools, sticks, and iron rods.

In response to the incident, an FIR (First Information Report) was lodged at the Harsora Police Station, leading to the apprehension of ten individuals for questioning, including four forest officers, on August 18.

Additionally, the police have taken custody of the forest officials’ jeep and have registered an FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), encompassing charges such as murder (Section 302), rioting (Section 147), unlawful assembly (Section 149), causing hurt voluntarily (Section 323), and wrongful restraint (Section 341) of the IPC.

This tragic occurrence is not isolated; it falls within a series of mob lynching cases that have plagued Alwar district.

While the district has previously witnessed instances of cow vigilantes targeting cattle rearers, this recent incident indicates a disturbing shift—now attacks are transpiring over suspicions of tree felling.
