Calamity Strikes as Bus Veers into Abyss, Prompting Urgent Rescue Efforts

Uttarkashi, August 20, 2023: In a horrific incident, a private bus with 35 passengers on board was traveling from Gangotri to Uttarkashi when it veered off course, hurtling into a deep gorge near the Gangnani area. The catastrophe unfolded around 4:05 pm, exacting a devastating toll.

The calamity claimed the lives of seven individuals and left 27 others grievously injured on this fateful Sunday. Swift action was taken by local residents and bystanders who swiftly alerted the police and relevant authorities, prompting a rapid response for rescue operations.

In response, police personnel, ambulances, as well as teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rapidly converged at the scene. Collaboratively, they embarked on a challenging search and rescue mission, tirelessly working to reach and aid those impacted by the tragic accident.

In the aftermath, seven lives were tragically lost, while the injured were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, underscoring the pressing need for enhanced safety measures on the region’s precarious roads.

Gaurav Kumar, Chief Development Officer of Uttarkashi, provided an update: “A bus carrying 35 people from Gangotri fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi. 27 injured have been rescued while 7 people have died. Rescue operation is underway.”

Raipur, August 20, 2023 : In a significant reconfiguration of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), party president Mallikarjun Kharge announced the appointment of leaders Shashi Tharoor and Sachin Pilot, among 28 others, as members of the committee responsible for critical decision-making within the party.

This crucial decision, made eight months ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, emerged from the 85th Plenary Session of the Indian National Congress held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, spanning from February 24-26.

It’s noteworthy that Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh had elucidated during the plenary sessions that the party had collectively resolved to abstain from conducting elections for the CWC. Instead, President Kharge would exclusively oversee the appointment process.

While the Congress constitution stipulates that 12 out of the 24 CWC members should be elected, the election mechanism has largely been bypassed due to a prevalent culture of strong nominations within the party. Notably, the defunct G23 had previously advocated for elections in two pivotal bodies—the CWC and the Central Election Committee, responsible for selecting candidates for assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Party insiders suggested that proponents of nomination asserted that holding elections could hinder the implementation of the proposed 50% quota, a crucial policy aiming to enhance inclusivity within the party’s highest executive body. Ramesh confirmed that this policy alteration would be executed through amendments in the party’s constitution.

In the revised list of the Congress Working Committee, Rajasthan’s representation includes Jitendra Singh, Sachin Pilot, and Mahendra Jit Singh Malviya as CWC members.

Concurrently, Harish Chaudhary, overseeing Punjab, has also been appointed as a CWC member. The distinguished roster features prominent Congress leaders such as Shashi Tharoor, Naseer Hussain, Alka Lamba, Supriya Shrinate, Praniti Shinde, Pawan Kheda, Ganesh Godial, and Yashomati Thakur.

Gujarat : A recent incident at Shri K. T. Patel Smriti Vidyalaya in Mehsana district has raised concerns over religious bias in educational institutions. Arnazbanu, a high-achieving Muslim student, was left disappointed after being denied an award at the school’s Independence Day function. Despite securing the top position in Class 10 with an impressive 87% score, she was not given the recognition she deserved.

Arnaz banu’s father, Sanwar Khan, expressed his disappointment, saying, “My daughter informed us that the award meant for her was given to a student who secured the second position. I engaged with school authorities and teachers seeking an explanation, but their responses were vague. While they promise the reward will be presented on January 26, my question remains – why wasn’t it granted on August 15 ?

The school’s principal, Bipin Patel, denied any discrimination and stated, “Our school strictly opposes all forms of discrimination. The deserving student will certainly receive her reward on January 26th. It’s noteworthy that she was absent on the scheduled day, which affected the presentation.

Sanwar Khan contested this, asserting, “My daughter did attend school that day, contrary to what the principal claims. The school has CCTV cameras, which can provide the necessary clarification.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media platforms, with activists and citizens expressing their discontent. The incident highlights ongoing challenges related to religious bias in educational institutions and underscores the importance of equal treatment and recognition for all students’ achievements.
