Hyderabad: Industries Minister KT Rama Rao has expressed serious objections to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments regarding the formation of Telangana. Rao criticized the Prime Minister for repeatedly hurting the sentiments of the people of Telangana while attempting to criticize the Congress party.
In a tweet, Rama Rao expressed his dismay, saying, “I am deeply dismayed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s comments regarding the formation of Telangana. This is not the first instance where the Prime Minister has made disparaging remarks about Telangana formation, and it reflects his utter disregard for historical facts.”
He further emphasized, “The people of Telangana tirelessly fought for six decades to attain statehood, a momentous achievement finally realized on June 2nd, 2014. The journey to statehood was marked by countless sacrifices, particularly from the youth of Telangana.”
Rama Rao clarified, “To suggest that Telangana did not celebrate its statehood is not only factually incorrect but also comes across as ignorant and arrogant. In his attempts to criticize the Congress party, Prime Minister Modi has been repeatedly hurting the sentiments of the people of Telangana. It is crucial for political leaders in important positions to approach such sensitive historical matters with empathy and understanding, considering the emotions and sacrifices associated with them.”
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, while participating in a discussion titled “Parliamentary Journey of 75 Years Starting from Samvidhan Sabha — Achievements, Experiences, Memories, and Learnings” in the Rajya Sabha, paid tribute to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for his inclusive approach that took the opposition into account and laid the foundation of the Indian Constitution.
During the discussion, Kharge criticized the BJP-led government for its handling of unemployment in the country and the ethnic violence in Manipur. He questioned the government’s decision to shift parliamentary proceedings to a new building and urged for tangible changes rather than just a change in name.
Kharge also expressed concern over the speedy passage of bills without the involvement of parliamentary standing committees, alleging that the government was using agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to weaken the opposition.
He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not visited violence-hit Manipur and criticized his absence in the House during opposition views and speeches beyond customary ones.
Kharge lamented the decline of parliamentary dialogue and compared it to the time when Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India, used to meet with opposition members to discuss key issues and patiently listen to parliamentary debates. He pointed out that Nehru even included an opposition party leader, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, in his cabinet.
Kharge expressed concern that today, despite a strong opposition, the government was using agencies like the ED and the CBI to weaken them.
He highlighted the importance of Nehru’s role in laying the foundation of the Constitution upon which Parliament operates and emphasized the efforts of B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution.
Kharge noted that during Congress’ regime, efforts were made to strengthen democracy and protect the Constitution, but now there is a fight to safeguard it.
He called for the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill and drew attention to the issue of rising unemployment, which he argued could threaten democracy in the country.
Kharge also highlighted the low representation of women in Parliament and requested better visibility for opposition leaders during Rajya Sabha proceedings.
Chennai: Tensions between the AIADMK and BJP escalated on Monday as a senior AIADMK leader clarified that there was no existing alliance with the saffron organization. He emphasized that any decision regarding a potential electoral alliance would only be determined during the elections.
Senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar criticized BJP state chief K Annamalai for disparaging comments about Dravidian stalwart CN Annadurai and warned that AIADMK members would not tolerate insults to the late chief minister.
Jayakumar pointed out that while Annamalai had made critical remarks about AIADMK leaders, including the late J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK had requested restraint on the part of the BJP leader.
He stated, “Annamalai doesn’t desire an alliance with AIADMK although BJP workers want it. Should we tolerate all this criticism of our leaders? Why should we carry you? BJP can’t set foot here. Your vote bank is known. You are known because of us.”
Regarding the possibility of an alliance, Jayakumar clarified, “As far as an alliance is concerned, it is not there. BJP is not with AIADMK. (the matter) can be decided only during the election. This is our stand.”
When asked if this was his personal opinion, Jayakumar responded, “Have I ever spoken to you in that capacity? I only talk what the party decides.”
Hyderabad: BRS Working President KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing them of a history marked by “fraud, deceit, and treachery” during their half-century rule. In a social media message posted on platform X, the Telangana minister asserted that “intelligent Telangana will not believe the lies and fictitious guarantees” put forth by Congress.
He went on to make a satirical reference to the “tricolour chameleon” (Congress flag), suggesting that if one were to believe in it, the removal of free power to farmers would be guaranteed.
The Congress recently unveiled six guarantees ahead of the upcoming Telangana assembly polls. These include promises such as Rs 2,500 per month for women, gas cylinders at Rs 500, and 200 units of free electricity for all households should the party assume power in the state.
Rama Rao continued his critique poetically in Telugu, stating that if the “rule of vultures” were to return, the abolition of Rythu Bandhu (a farmer investment support scheme) would be certain. Similarly, he warned that if the “regime of kalakeyas” (demons) took over, power cuts and darkness in the state would follow. In a mocking tone, he added that if the “puppets of Delhi” came to power, it would guarantee the compromise of Telangana’s self-esteem.

The meeting of floor leaders from various political parties in Parliament was attended by ministers and 51 leaders representing 34 parties.
Tiwari remarked, “The government is so confused. It was an agenda by a confused government. When the meeting started, a total of four points were printed, but by the end of the meeting, there were eight points. When we asked for the agenda, they said they would send it to us. In a light-hearted yet pointed remark directed at the treasury benches, Kharge humorously commented on the success of the G20 summit while highlighting the necessity of also addressing domestic issues. He cleverly suggested that the symbol of the “Lotus” was concealing the ‘0’ in G20, playfully implying that perhaps it should be referred to as “G2.”
The special parliamentary session is slated to span two days, with the initial day’s proceedings unfolding within the historic old Parliament building. This choice of venue pays homage to its deep-rooted significance in India’s political history. On the subsequent day, Members of Parliament (MPs) will convene in the new Parliament building, symbolizing the nation’s commitment to modernization and progress.

In a candid assessment, Venugopal conveyed that the building itself, though impressive, could not alone yield meaningful results. Instead, he stressed that the real significance lay in the quality and outcome of the deliberations occurring within its chambers, highlighting that the issues addressed and the policies formulated would shape the nation’s future.

However, he also acknowledged the emotional aspect of leaving behind an institution steeped in history and cherished memories. Tharoor noted the initial confusion regarding the necessity of the move, particularly in light of pending bills that could have been introduced later. As time passed, it became apparent that the government aimed to create a special moment by transitioning from one building to another. Tharoor acknowledged this objective, stating, “But it is now becoming clear the government wanted to make a special moment out of shifting from one building to another. They have tried to do it in a special way. We can understand the objective there.”

MIM President Refutes Claims of Bloodless Integration Made by Home Minister
Hyderabad : Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), alleged on Sunday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had propagated a falsehood when he claimed that the integration of the erstwhile Hyderabad State into the Indian Union occurred without any bloodshed. Owaisi, the Member of Parliament representing Hyderabad, compared Shah’s statement to a similar assertion made by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in his speech on September 18, 1948, a day after Hyderabad’s integration into India.
Speaking at a public meeting shortly after Amit Shah’s address during Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations, Owaisi criticized the claims of a bloodless integration. The MIM leader referred to the report of the Pandit Sunderlal Commission, which investigated the situation in Hyderabad State after the ‘Police Action,’ the Indian military action against the Nizam’s Army.
“Pandit Sunderlal said in his report that more than 20,000 Muslims were massacred. The report contradicts the claims made by Nehru and today’s home minister,” Owaisi asserted. He further explained that Pandit Sunderlal and Qazi Abdul Gaffar had informed Moulana Abul Kalam Azad that a gruesome situation unfolded in the name of ‘Police Action.’ Upon receiving this information, Nehru had dispatched Sunderlal and Abdul Gaffar to Hyderabad State.
Owaisi claimed that Sunderlal’s report mentioned that while ‘razakars’ had committed atrocities against Hindus, 100 Muslims were killed for each ‘razakar.’ The MIM leader criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for attempting to paint Hyderabad’s integration as a communal issue, emphasizing that many Muslims had actively opposed the Nizam.
He stated, “RSS, Jan Sangh, and Sangh Parivar played no role in the fight for Hyderabad State’s integration with India.” Owaisi highlighted the historical context by referencing Moulvi Alauddin, an Imam of Hyderabad’s Mecca Masjid, who had spoken out against the British and the Nizam’s government during the first war of independence in 1857.
Expressing his preference for India’s democratic Constitution over the feudal system that existed during the Nizam’s rule, Owaisi criticized those who labeled him and his party as ‘razakars.’ He said, “Razakars have gone to Pakistan, but patriots have stayed back and are fighting for their rights.”
Owaisi also remarked, “Razakars have escaped, but the descendants of Godse and Savarkar are still here. We have to drive them out.” He acknowledged the Nizam’s contributions to modern Hyderabad, including the development of infrastructure such as the old airport, railway stations, Osmania University, hospitals, reservoirs, and various buildings. Owaisi also noted that the Nizam had donated properties to temples and highlighted the presence of Hindus in the Nizam’s government and as landlords in the region.
In closing, Owaisi urged people to study history to prevent the repetition of past mistakes and emphasized his commitment to the principles of India’s democratic Constitution.
