BRS Looted Telangana, Amassed Crores in Commissions: Minister Vivek Venkatswamy

0

Medak, February 04, 2026:
Labour and Employment Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy launched a scathing attack on the BRS party and the Kalvakuntla family, alleging that while the people sacrificed for the Telangana movement, the former ruling party “looted the State” by collecting commissions in the name of developmental projects.

Dr. Venkatswamy, who also oversees the Medak Lok Sabha constituency, held a meeting with Congress candidates of the Medak Municipality and directed them to ensure victory in the upcoming municipal elections.

‘BRS Built Wealth, Not Telangana’

The Minister claimed that the Kalvakuntla family’s assets had “grown exponentially,” asserting that the BRS party holds ₹800 crore in deposits, with ₹400 crore allegedly routed by industrialist Megha Krishna Reddy through electoral bonds.

He criticised the previous BRS regime for failing to provide double-bedroom houses to the poor, even as former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and his family “constructed massive farmhouses spread across hundreds of acres.” He added that allegations made by Kavitha remain uncontested because they are “based on facts.”

‘State Pushed Into Debt, Congress Repairing the Damage’

Despite Telangana being resource-rich, Dr. Venkatswamy said the BRS government had pushed it into a debt of ₹8 lakh crore, with an annual income of only ₹1 lakh crore—insufficient to cover interest payments. The Congress government, he said, is gradually stabilising the State’s finances.

Welfare Schemes Highlighted

The Minister noted that the free bus travel for women scheme has already incurred ₹9,000 crore, helping women save about ₹3,000 monthly.
He criticised the BRS for not issuing a single ration card during its 10-year rule, while the Congress government is now issuing cards to all eligible families. He assured that all eligible beneficiaries would receive pensions.

He added that ₹13,000 crore is being spent on supplying fine rice through ration cards. Under Mahila Shakti, ₹23,000 crore has been sanctioned to women’s self-help groups, with interest-free loans cleared. He reiterated that the promised ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance to women will be implemented soon.

Congress Eyes Big Victory in Medak

Referring to the municipal elections, Dr. Venkatswamy said the Chief Minister’s segment-wise reviews have boosted confidence that the Congress will secure 80% of councillor seats statewide and about 90% in Medak. He expressed confidence that the party will sweep all 29 seats in Medak Municipality.

He urged candidates to stay vigilant and avoid overconfidence, calling for relentless campaigning and direct engagement with voters. He said the Congress government will remain in power for the next three years and appealed to voters to support Congress candidates for continued development.

‘Harish Rao Must Be Defeated Politically’

The Minister alleged that Harish Rao is focusing on Medak due to the presence of Mynampally Hanumanth Rao but claimed that during his tenure, Harish Rao neglected Medak and Dubbak. He accused him of diverting Megha projects, selectively upgrading roads, and shifting government offices out of Medak. “Harish Rao must be politically defeated,” he declared.

The meeting was attended by Medak MLA Mynampally Rohith Rao, former MLA Mynampally Hanumanth Rao, DCC President Anjaneyulu Goud, and other Congress leaders.

Union Budget 2026: What Gets Costlier, What Gets Cheaper, and What It Means for the Middle Class

0

Phones and electronics may get cheaper, but if daily essentials like sugar, pulses, and cooking oil had become more affordable, it would have offered real relief to households.

New Delhi:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026 with a strong focus on tax stability and simplified compliance. While income tax slabs remain unchanged, several indirect tax modifications will reshape the cost of living for millions. Here is a complete overview of what becomes more expensive, what becomes cheaper, and how the middle class is impacted this year.

Income Tax: No New Relief for the Middle Class

For the second consecutive year, the government kept income tax slab rates unchanged under both the old and new regimes.

This means:

No new tax relief for salaried or middle-class families

No increase in the zero-tax limit

No changes in standard deduction

No additional exemptions or deductions

The previously announced relief—zero tax up to ₹12 lakh under rebate in the new tax regime—continues. Though filing procedures are now easier with simplified forms and more flexible revision timelines, taxpayers receive no direct financial benefit this year.

What Becomes More Expensive

  1. Tobacco Products

Excise duties and health cesses on cigarettes, gutkha, chewing tobacco and related products have been sharply increased. Prices will rise significantly, in line with the government’s aim to curb consumption.

  1. Alcohol

Sin taxes on alcoholic beverages have been raised, making drinks costlier across bars, restaurants and retail stores.

  1. Luxury Cars and Imported Vehicles

Customs duties on high-end imported cars and luxury vehicles have been increased, leading to steeper prices in the premium segment.

  1. Coal and Selected Minerals

Higher levies on coal and lignite will push up industrial input costs and may indirectly affect energy-related expenses.

  1. Financial Market Transactions

Taxes on derivatives, futures, options and certain speculative transactions have increased, raising trading costs for active market participants.

  1. Miscellaneous Imported Goods

A range of items such as umbrellas and specific consumer imports will see price hikes due to tariff realignments.

What Becomes Cheaper

  1. Electronics and Smartphones

Duty rationalisation on mobile phone components and electronic parts is expected to reduce smartphone manufacturing costs. Prices may drop over the coming months.

  1. EV Batteries and Renewable Energy Equipment

Lower duties on lithium-ion cells, solar components and clean-tech equipment will make EV batteries, solar panels, and renewable solutions more affordable.

  1. Essential Medicines

Duty cuts on certain life-saving medicines and medical components will help bring down healthcare expenses.

  1. Textiles and Leather Goods

Reduced duties on raw materials in the textile and leather sector may lower prices of garments, footwear, and leather accessories.

⭐ Public-Interest Note

While electronics and smartphones may get cheaper, many citizens feel that real relief would have come if essential items like sugar, pulses, edible oil, and other daily-use food products had seen a price reduction. Lower costs on basic necessities would have directly eased monthly household budgets.

Overall Impact: Mixed Outcomes for Citizens
Likely Increase in Household Expenses

Higher tobacco and alcohol prices

Costlier luxury/exported goods

Increased financial trading charges

Possible Areas of Relief

Cheaper smartphones and electronics

Reduced prices for EV batteries and solar equipment

Slightly lower medicine and clothing costs

What It Means for the Middle Class

For the middle-income group, the outcome is largely unchanged:

No direct tax reduction

No increase in slab benefits

No new deductions

Only procedural ease, not monetary savings

Union Budget 2026 focuses on stability, manufacturing growth and long-term economic direction rather than immediate relief for common taxpayers. While consumers will feel the pinch in certain areas and some relief in others, the middle class receives no direct tax benefit, continuing a familiar pattern.

This is the clear, comprehensive and balanced overview of how Budget 2026 impacts everyday spending for families across India.

From Hyderabad to Dallas: The Inspiring Journey of Shawkat Mohammed

0

How a Hyderabadi immigrant became a guardian of Urdu culture in America

Dallas, Texas:
The journey of Shawkat Mohammed is one of humility, ambition, and lifelong service. Born in 1963 in Hyderabad, he grew up in a vibrant joint family of nearly 35 members, surrounded by affection, cultural values, and deep-rooted traditions. His family held a respected place in the community through Rasheed Supplying Company and Rasheed Function Hall, businesses established by his maternal grandfather.

Among the many family members he grew up with, Shawkat shared a special bond with his young uncle Mohammed Basit, whose passing during COVID remains one of the most emotional chapters of his life.

Early Life: A Childhood Shaped by Books and Big Dreams

Educated at Students Service Guild, Crescent High School, and Anwarul Uloom College, Shawkat was always drawn toward knowledge, ambition, and self-improvement.

While his peers spent hours watching cricket, young Shawkat could be found walking through the bookstalls of Abids Road, buying second-hand motivational books for just a few rupees.
One such book — You Can Work Your Own Miracles by Napoleon Hill — became a turning point in his young life.

His fascination with America began early. He regularly listened to Voice of America – Special English, wrote letters to them, and even received small gifts in return. These simple exchanges strengthened his connection to a country he had not yet seen, but deeply admired.

A New Beginning in the United States

In 1985, Shawkat moved to the United States, fulfilling a dream he had carried since childhood. He made Dallas his home from day one.

His early years were humble. Like many first-generation immigrants, he worked various jobs to make ends meet, all while observing and learning from the American work ethic — discipline, sincerity, and dedication.

A major milestone came when he was selected after a rigorous process to join the Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport Board in Airport Operations, where he served for ten years.
Later, equipped with new computer programming skills, he worked with leading telecommunications companies before embarking on entrepreneurship.

Two Decades of Professional Excellence

For the past 21 years, Shawkat has built a respected career in insurance and financial planning. He is appointed with several top-tier insurance companies and is known for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to his clients.

His achievements include earning the globally prestigious MDRT – Top of the Table honor for ten consecutive years, a distinction reserved for the top financial professionals worldwide.

He became a proud U.S. citizen in 1993, while keeping his heart closely tied to his roots, culture, and mother tongue.

A Devoted Ambassador of Urdu Culture

For more than 20 years, Shawkat has been one of the strongest supporters of Urdu mushairas, literary gatherings, and cultural programs in the United States.

He has worked closely with the respected poet Dr. Noor Amrohvi and has supported Al-Noor International for over two decades — an organization that organizes multiple major mushairas each year in Dallas.

Through these efforts, Shawkat has helped bring celebrated poets such as:
Manzar Bhopali, Imran Pratapgarhi, Lata Haya, and many others.

He has also supported special events honoring iconic literary figures like Gulzar and Javed Akhtar.

Challenges in Preserving Urdu Abroad

While Bollywood-driven entertainment easily draws crowds, Urdu literature and cultural values often do not receive the support they deserve.
Shawkat strives to engage second-generation youth, guiding them to rediscover the elegance of Urdu language and the richness of their heritage.

Books & Writing

Shawkat’s life journey also inspired the creation of a book titled:

“Shawkat’s Life Adventures”

This book was not authored by him, but written by a close friend who was deeply inspired by Shawkat’s life story.
Shawkat shared his experiences, struggles, and memories, and his friend beautifully put those spoken words into writing, preserving the authenticity of Shawkat’s voice and journey.

In addition to this, Shawkat’s articles are regularly published in multiple Urdu newspapers across India, where he writes about social awareness, culture, motivation, and community engagement.

Awards & Recognition

Shawkat’s contributions to society have earned him appreciation and recognition within the Dallas community.

Recently, he was honored with the title:

“A Beacon of Selfless Service”

Presented by Beauty of Humanity / Stardom Entertainment (2025) for his selfless service and heartfelt commitment to charitable causes.

This achievement was also highlighted by SOCH – The News of Dallas, known for featuring inspiring community stories.

Philosophy & Vision

Shawkat firmly believes that the Indian diaspora plays a crucial role in preserving Urdu beyond borders.
Through mushairas, educational events, and cultural initiatives, they help ensure that Urdu remains a living symbol of identity, emotion, and heritage.

Message to Young Writers Abroad

“Stay rooted in your language, culture, and identity. Let your words build bridges between your heritage and the world. Be authentic and fearless.”

Future Goals

He hopes to continue supporting social, educational, and cultural initiatives that promote unity, awareness, and empowerment within the community.

Message to Akai News India Readers

“It is our shared responsibility to keep our heritage, culture, and values alive for future generations. By honoring our roots and passing on our traditions, we preserve our identity and build a stronger, more connected community.”

Supreme Court Cancels Governor’s Quota MLC Appointments of Aamir Ali Khan and Kodanda Ram

0

Hyderabad : On 13th August 2025, the Supreme Court of India annulled the appointments of Aamir Ali Khan, senior journalist and Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily, and Professor Kodanda Ram as Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) under the Governor’s quota in Telangana. The decision upholds the Telangana High Court’s earlier ruling invalidating their appointments.

The petition challenging the appointments was filed by TRS leaders Dasu Jo Saravan and Kura Satya Narayana, who contended that the selections violated the eligibility criteria of the Governor’s quota, reserved for individuals with distinguished contributions in literature, science, arts, or social service.

In its verdict, the Supreme Court declared the MLC positions held by both individuals as unlawful. The court further stated that no fresh appointments can be made to these seats until a final ruling is delivered. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 17th September 2025.

The ruling has sparked political debate in Telangana, particularly regarding the use of the Governor’s quota and its potential implications. TRS leader T. Rama Rao described the decision as a major setback for both the BJP and Congress, alleging that both parties had misused constitutional provisions. He emphasized that the verdict highlights violations of democratic principles and the Constitution by the parties involved.

Responding to the decision, Aamir Ali Khan expressed surprise and stated that he would provide further comments after reviewing the Supreme Court’s judgment in detail.

The upcoming hearing in September will determine the future procedure for appointments under the Governor’s quota in Telangana, with political and administrative implications expected to follow.

Lives Lost, No Accountability: Priyanka Gandhi Demands Home Minister’s Resignation Over Pahalgam Attack

0

New Delhi, July 29: In a scathing attack on the Centre, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday questioned why Union Home Minister Amit Shah has not resigned following the deadly Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of several security personnel. Speaking during a press interaction as part of the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, she held the government responsible for the serious security lapse.
“If there is no accountability at the top, such tragedies will continue,” she remarked.

On the seventh day of the session, political tensions escalated as Priyanka Gandhi sharply criticized the Union Home Minister over the recent terror strike in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. She questioned the government’s silence and demanded accountability for what she termed a “national security failure.”
“When such a serious incident occurs, why has the Home Minister not yet resigned?” she asked.

According to Priyanka, the attack reflects a grave failure in the country’s internal security system. She accused the BJP-led central government of avoiding responsibility and diverting public attention from core issues.
“This is not just a lapse—it is a matter of national security. The government cannot continue to run away from questions,” she asserted.

She further criticized the ruling party for not taking moral responsibility, saying,
“The opposition is constantly blamed for small disruptions, but when lives are lost due to security failures, no one at the top is held accountable.”

Following her statement, Congress leaders staged a walkout in both Houses of Parliament, demanding an official response from the Home Minister and calling for a detailed discussion on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in light of repeated militant attacks post the abrogation of Article 370.

Opposition MPs from parties like the Trinamool Congress and DMK supported Priyanka’s stance and echoed the demand for transparency and accountability. They criticized the Centre’s handling of the region’s volatile security conditions.

The ruling BJP, however, remained firm and refrained from commenting directly on the resignation demand. Party spokespersons later stated that the government is fully committed to national security and urged the opposition not to politicize sensitive issues.

Despite that, the political atmosphere inside and outside Parliament remains charged, with the opposition vowing to continue pressing the issue in the coming days.
