Hyderabad Police Detains DJS Leadership Ahead of Black Day Press Meet on Dec 6

0

Hyderabad : The Hyderabad police arrested President of DJS, Abdul Majid, and key members, Salahuddin Affan and Mohammed Bin Omer, just hours before a scheduled press meet on the occasion of Black Day, marking the anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.

President Abdul Majid was taken into custody from his residence in the early morning hours, while General Secretary Salahuddin Affan and Joint Secretary Mohammed Bin Omer were apprehended later in the day from the DJS office in Mogulpura, Hyderabad. The arrests were made to thwart the planned press conference where the leaders intended to voice their concerns and protest against the historical event.

In a press release, Ahmed Mohiuddin, Secretary of DJS, strongly condemned the arrests, labeling them as an infringement on the right to free expression and peaceful assembly. He detailed the arrests, explaining that Abdul Majid was apprehended early in the day, followed by the detention of Salahuddin Affan and Mohammed Bin Omer at around 11 AM.

Mohiuddin emphasized the significance of December 6 as a Black Day in Indian history, marking the demolition of the 475-year-old Babri Masjid under an organized conspiracy. He accused the authorities of suppressing the voices of DJS and other Muslim and secular organizations that observe this day as a protest against the destruction of the historic mosque.

Mumbai : In a press conference held in Mumbai, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) President Prakash Ambedkar issued a warning, emphasizing the peril faced by the parliamentary system in India. Ambedkar, grandson of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, urged all those opposing the Bharatiya Janata Party-RSS to unite and safeguard democracy in the country.

During the media address following the VBA Core Committee meeting on strategies for the 2024 elections, Ambedkar highlighted the significance of parliamentary democracy, emphasizing its empowerment of the common masses and provision of equal representation to individuals from all walks of life. He stressed that the survival of parliamentary democracy is vital for the existence of political parties and the preservation of people’s power.

Expressing concerns about the potential shift to a presidential system, Ambedkar warned against concentrating power in the hands of a limited few from the upper castes. To prevent this scenario, he called for unity among parties capable of challenging the BJP-RSS, urging them to collaborate in the upcoming 2024 elections for the protection of parliamentary democracy.

Ambedkar also touched upon the alliance with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ally Shiv Sena-UBT, headed by former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Despite the purported delays in seat-sharing discussions within the MVA, Ambedkar clarified that the VBA cannot engage in seat distribution talks with Shiv Sena-UBT unless initiated by them. He asserted that the decision on seat-sharing now rests with Shiv Sena-UBT, warning that if a resolution is not reached soon, VBA will independently contest all 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

During the announcement, both Shivakumar and Thakre were present to convey the decision of the party high command regarding Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flash flood warning for parts of Telangana due to the influence of severe cyclonic storm ‘Michaung.’ The IMD expressed concerns over a moderate flash flood risk in specific districts of the state over the next 24 hours, attributing it to the impact of Cyclone Michaung.

As of 8:30 am on Tuesday, Cyclone Michaung was positioned near Latitude 15.2°N and Longitude 80.25°E, approximately 40 km northeast of Kavali, 80 km north-northeast of Nellore, 80 km south-southwest of Bapatla, and 140 km south-southwest of Machilipatnam. The cyclonic storm had hovered over the Westcentral and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal off the southern Andhra Pradesh and northern Tamil Nadu coasts on Monday.

IMD reports have identified Suryapet, Khammam, and Nagarkurnool as districts at moderate risk for flash floods. In response to the potential threat, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam have been placed on red alert status, signifying an elevated level of caution and preparedness for these areas.

Forecasts suggest that Cyclone Michaung will maintain its near-northward movement, running close to the coast of south Andhra Pradesh. The storm is expected to make landfall near Bapatla in the next four hours, retaining its intensity as a severe cyclonic storm. The maximum sustained wind speed is estimated to be between 90-100 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 110 kmph. The IMD urges residents in the identified districts to exercise caution and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.

EVM Authenticity Questioned by Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh After BJP’s Victory in Madhya Pradesh

In the aftermath of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, former Chief Minister and Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh’s skepticism about the authenticity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) has stirred a political controversy. Singh, also a Rajya Sabha MP, took to his social media account to express concerns, claiming that EVMs fitted with chips could be hacked. He reiterated his opposition to EVM-based elections since 2003, posing a fundamental question about the vulnerability of Indian democracy to professional hackers.

Singh’s social media post was a response to a 2012 media report with the headline ‘BJP blames EVMs for defeat,’ shared by a journalist. Emphasizing that any machine with a chip could be hacked, Singh called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Supreme Court to defend Indian democracy.

The controversy unfolded two days after the Congress faced significant defeats by the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. Singh’s post is expected to trigger a wider debate on the authenticity of the EVMs used in the elections, building on his previous questions about EVMs.

Simultaneously, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Kamal Nath cast doubt on the fairness of elections in the state. Following a meeting with party candidates to analyze the defeat, Nath expressed surprise at instances where some candidates received fewer than 50 votes in their villages. He questioned the credibility of exit polls, suggesting they were crafted by those already aware of the election results.

In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, the BJP secured a decisive victory with 163 seats out of the 230-member assembly, while the Congress had to settle for 66 seats. This outcome contradicted exit poll projections of a closely contested battle.

Responding to allegations of EVM hacking by some Congress leaders, Kamal Nath urged caution, stating that conclusions should not be drawn without discussions. Despite expressing surprise at the election results, Nath emphasized that the public mood was in favor of the Congress. He urged reporters to inquire with the people about their sentiments regarding the election outcome.

Telangana’s Leadership Puzzle: Revanth Reddy Poised for Chief Minister Role Amidst Congress Deliberations

0

Amidst deliberations within the Congress leadership, the deadlock over the next Chief Minister of Telangana appears to be reaching a resolution. Revanth Reddy is positioned as the leading candidate for the coveted CM post, though Bhatti Vikramarka, backed by influential figures like Uttam Kumar Reddy, presents a notable contender.

Currently, key Congress figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Manikrao Thakre, and DK Shivakumar, are engaged in discussions at Kharge’s Delhi residence. The decision is anticipated later today, with DK Shivakumar set to unveil the chosen CM at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting. Sources suggest that Revanth Reddy is strongly favored by the party’s high command, indicating a likely elevation to the CM role.

Contrary to speculation, there seems to be no rotational formula for the CM position, dispelling any confusion within the party. An anonymous source affirmed, “There is a delay, but there is no confusion,” emphasizing the imminent confirmation of Revanth Reddy as the CM.

In related developments, reports indicate a lack of interest in the Congress for the Speaker post, prompting discussions with potential candidates like Sridhar Babu. The party is expected to announce the CM candidate today, with the swearing-in ceremony likely to take place soon at the Raj Bhavan. As the decision unfolds, the path appears to be clearing for Revanth Reddy to assume the top post in Telangana.
