Emphasizing the indispensable role of legal frameworks in effective governance, he highlighted the intricate interplay between magistrates, judges, and citizens as the cornerstone for preserving freedom.

Positioning the rule of law as the ultimate authority, Prof. Faizan Mustafa made a clear distinction from the potentially oppressive nature of “rule by law.” He articulated the nuanced difference, emphasizing that the true essence of the rule of law lies in justice and freedom.

Addressing a contemporary threat to democracies, Prof. Faizan Mustafa pointed to the prevalence of “rule by law,” highlighting its potential risks when wrong laws are enacted and implemented.

Justice G Sri Devi’s Presiding Speech: Emphasis on Judiciary Scrutiny

Justice G Sri Devi emphasized the critical need for the judiciary to thoroughly examine accused records, cautioning against potential blunders if overlooked. She urged young advocates to meticulously study evidence, sharing concerns about hastened judgments leading to unjust, prolonged incarcerations.

Drawing from her own journey as an advocate to the District Court and later the High Court, Justice G Sri Devi offered her availability for legal mentoring, expressing a commitment to guide fellow advocates and prevent the detrimental impact of wrongful judgments on the lives and careers of undertrials.

In a significant development, Telangana’s Roads and Buildings Minister, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, has voiced support for granting Special Category Status (SCS) to the neighboring Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh. Reddy expressed this stance following a meeting with representatives of the Andhra Pradesh Special Category Status Porata Samithi in the national capital on Tuesday.

Addressing reporters, the Congress minister pledged to exert efforts in persuading the central government to bestow Special Category Status upon Andhra Pradesh. He recalled the commitment made by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had assured the Telugu state of this status. Singh had expressed hope that his successor, current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would uphold the UPA government’s commitment to Andhra Pradesh.

Expressing disappointment, Minister Komatireddy emphasized that the Centre has not fulfilled its promise, stating that it is now the responsibility of the Modi government to honor the commitment made to Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh has been advocating for Special Category Status, highlighting the significant loss of revenue the state incurred after Hyderabad, the capital of undivided Andhra Pradesh, was allocated to Telangana following the state’s bifurcation on June 2, 2014. The renewed push for SCS reflects the ongoing socio-economic challenges faced by Andhra Pradesh.

TSPSC Chairman’s Resignation: Telangana Governor Yet to Accept

0

Hyderabad : Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Chairman B. Janardhan Reddy’s resignation, submitted after his meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is currently in limbo. Although Reddy tendered his resignation on Monday evening, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, currently in Puducherry as Lieutenant Governor, has not officially accepted it.

Contrary to circulating reports, Raj Bhavan has denied that the Governor has approved the resignation. Officials from Raj Bhavan have confirmed that Janardhan Reddy’s resignation is still under consideration by Governor Soundararajan.

The former IAS officer’s tenure as TSPSC Chairman was marked by challenges, including question paper leaks and exam cancellations. The leakage, particularly concerning Assistant Engineer (AE), Group-I Preliminary, and DAO exams in March of this year, led to significant repercussions. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested around 100 individuals, including TSPSC employees, in connection with the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also conducted an investigation.

The opposition parties heavily criticized the BRS government over the TSPSC paper leak, citing failures in exam conduct and demanding the board’s scrapping. The subsequent cancellation and postponement of exams triggered protests from unemployed youth, influencing the recent Assembly elections.

Janardhan Reddy, appointed TSPSC chairman by the previous BRS government in May 2021, had held various key positions in the government before taking voluntary retirement to assume the TSPSC role.

With the resignation under review, the fate of the seven members appointed to TSPSC alongside the chairman remains uncertain. The Congress party, during the election campaign, pledged to revamp TSPSC and ensure transparent recruitment processes in government departments. The new government is expected to take swift steps toward fulfilling this promise, potentially involving the appointment of a new board.

As I am in Yashoda Hospitals after an unfortunate accident, my medical team is advising that there is a chance of catching an infection and the condition getting worse.”

In his plea, he requested followers and well-wishers to return to their homes, citing potential traffic troubles and the need for a sterile environment for recovery. KCR assured everyone that ample opportunities for meetings would arise soon after a complete recovery.

This appeal aligns with medical advice from KCR’s team, stressing the importance of caution during the recovery process to prevent complications.

US President Biden to Skip Republic Day Celebration in India, Quad Summit Deferred

0

In a turn of events, US President Joe Biden is reportedly not slated to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations next month, according to sources familiar with the matter. The anticipated summit of the Quad coalition, comprising India, the US, Japan, and Australia, is also deferred from its initial January schedule.

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti had earlier conveyed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended an invitation to President Biden for the Republic Day event on January 26. However, there has been no official response from India regarding the invitation.

Simultaneously, it has been disclosed that the Quad summit, originally expected around January 27 if President Biden accepted India’s invite, is now proposed to take place in the later part of 2024. A source revealed that the current dates under consideration do not align with the availability of all Quad partners.

Washington has communicated to New Delhi that President Biden will not be able to travel to India for the Republic Day celebrations, leading to a reevaluation of plans. Despite this, there has been a series of high-profile visits by senior US officials to India in recent months, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, Principal Deputy NSA Jonathan Finer, and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

The visit by Finer and Wray is notably tied to Washington’s allegations of an Indian connection to a foiled plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist on US soil. India has initiated a probe into the matter.

Regarding the Quad summit, India is actively exploring fresh dates for the gathering. The previous Quad summit occurred in Hiroshima on May 20, with the leaders releasing a ‘Vision Statement’ titled ‘Enduring Partners for Indo-Pacific.’ The summit, initially planned for Sydney on May 24, was rescheduled to Hiroshima after President Biden postponed his trip to Australia.

The forthcoming Quad summit is anticipated to strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region in response to increasing Chinese military assertiveness. The leaders aim to collaborate on clean energy supply chains, undersea cables, and strategic technologies, as outlined in their previous initiatives.

Order Issued: K. Sreenivasa Reddy for Hyderabad, G Sudheer Babu for Rachakonda, and Avinash Mohanthy for Cyberabad as Police Commissioners.

Hyderabad : In a momentous development, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to overturn the suspension of Telangana’s former Director General of Police (DGP), Anjani Kumar. This decision comes after a thorough review of an appeal submitted by the distinguished police official.

Anjani Kumar faced suspension by the EC on December 3, accused of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) by allegedly holding a meeting with Congress candidate A. Revanth Reddy, now the Chief Minister, during the vote counting for the state Assembly elections. The EC had concurrently suspended state police officers Sanjay Kumar Jain and Mahesh M Bhagwat, who were present at the contentious meeting.

Following Anjani Kumar’s suspension, senior IPS officer Ravi Gupta assumed the additional responsibility of the state DGP.

In a cascading series of changes, leadership positions within law enforcement in the Greater Hyderabad area underwent significant reshuffling. K. Srinivas Reddy has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad, while Avinash Mohanty assumes the role of Commissioner of Police for Cyberabad, and Sudheer Babu takes charge as Commissioner of Police for Rachakonda.

Simultaneously, Sandeep Shandilya has been appointed as the new Chief of TS_NAB. Additionally, Stephen Ravindra and D S Chowhan have been instructed to report to the Office of the Telangana DGP. Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari issued a Government Order on transfers and postings.

This development follows the Election Commission of India’s earlier order in October, which mandated the transfer of several police officers, including the then Hyderabad Commissioner C. V. Anand. Notably, Sandeep Shandilya assumed the position of Commissioner in the wake of these changes.

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi Expresses Concerns Over Article 370 Verdict: Highlights Demographic Changes in Jammu and Ladakh

0

In response to the Supreme Court’s affirmation of the abrogation of Article 370, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi voiced concerns over demographic changes impacting the Dogras of Jammu and Buddhists of Ladakh. He questioned the absence of a timeline for the reinstatement of statehood, emphasizing the need for early elections in J&K.

Owaisi asserted that the constitutional relationship between J&K and the Union, while integral, allowed for distinctiveness. He warned against normalizing the abrogation, cautioning it could set a precedent for other regions like Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, or Mumbai. Owaisi raised the issue of Ladakh’s governance under a Lt. Governor without democratic representation.

Highlighting the lack of public deliberation in Kashmir during the abrogation and the absence of an elected legislative assembly, Owaisi referred to the Bommai judgment, stressing the importance of federalism and questioning Parliament’s authority to replace the Assembly’s decisions in the constitution. He labeled the Article 370 abrogation as a violation of constitutional morality.

BRS Leader K. Kavitha Acknowledges Ram Temple Construction as a “Dream Come True”

0

Hyderabad, December 11: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha expressed a significant shift in the party’s stance by stating that the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is a “dream come true for crores of Hindus.” Kavitha, the daughter of BRS President and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, shared her thoughts on social media platform X, emphasizing the auspicious moment when the idol of Sri Seetharama Chandra Swamy will be installed in Ayodhya on January 22.

In her Telugu post, Kavitha extended a warm welcome to the historic event, aligning Telangana with the joyous occasion. The BRS MLC’s statement is seen as a notable departure from the party’s previous position and comes in the aftermath of BRS losing power to the Congress in Telangana.

Political analysts interpret this shift as a potential indication that BRS may follow the JD(S)’s path and align with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The JD(S) had joined the NDA a few months after both parties faced defeat in the Karnataka Assembly elections against the Congress.

Supporters of the BJP recalled statements made by KCR, his son K.T. Rama Rao, and Kavitha on the Ayodhya issue in the past. Social media posts circulated video clips of BRS leaders addressing the matter during previous speeches.

During an election campaign, KCR had raised questions about the demolition of Babri Masjid and criticized the Congress for allegedly using Muslims as a vote bank. The recent stance of Kavitha is viewed as a noteworthy development in the political landscape of Telangana.
