Numaish’s Rich History and Evolution:
Originating in 1938 as a platform to promote locally-produced goods, Numaish has grown into one of the world’s oldest and largest trade fairs. The inaugural event, inaugurated by the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad State, Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, featured 50 stalls and a capital of Rs.2.50. Despite disruptions in 1947 and 1948 and a hiatus in 2020 due to the Covid-19 situation, Numaish continues to thrive.

Diverse Offerings and Nationwide Participation:
Traders from across the country have set up stalls, offering a diverse array of goods, including handicrafts, toys, imitation jewelry, ladies’ apparel, crockery, and electronic items. The exhibition, visited by 40,000-50,000 people daily, also features amusement spaces, rides, and a variety of delectable dishes from popular food outlets.

As Numaish unfolds its 83rd chapter, it remains a testament to resilience, evolution, and the vibrant tapestry of India’s trade and cultural heritage.

Controversial Statement by Senior Congress Leader H. Anjaneya: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is “Lord Ram for us”

0

Chitradurga (Karnataka) : In a surprising turn of events, Senior Congress leader H. Anjaneya sparked controversy on Monday by proclaiming that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is regarded as “Lord Ram for us.” The statement came in response to inquiries about Siddaramaiah allegedly not receiving an invitation to the inauguration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Anjaneya, a former minister and a close confidant of Siddaramaiah, justified the omission from the Ayodhya event, stating, “Not inviting him to the inauguration ceremony in Ayodhya is a good development. CM Siddaramaiah himself is Lord Ram. Why should he worship Ram in Ayodhya?” He further informed reporters that Siddaramaiah plans to worship Lord Ram in the temple at his native village Siddaramanahundi, emphasizing, “In Ayodhya, there is BJP’s Lord Ram. They have invited their men to recite bhajans. I am Anjaneya (a name given to Lord Hanuman), we are all devotees of Lord Ram.”

Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Anjaneya, who belongs to the Dalit community, accused the party of adopting a divide-and-rule policy between religions. He expressed, “People from our community name themselves as Ram, Hanuman. These gods hail from our communities. BJP adopts a divide-and-rule policy between religions. They have an illusion of getting votes by giving statements against a religion.” Asserting the commonality of Hindu identity, he remarked, “We are all Hindus. BJP does not own the Hindu religion. Have they given a solution for discrimination and exploitation?”

Anjaneya urged a shift in focus from temple construction to addressing societal issues, stating, “The construction of temples should stop, and the focus must be on building houses and healthy mindsets. People are living in deplorable conditions. Build houses for them and name them Ram Mandirs. Lord Ram will bless you. Lord Ram should not be used for votes.”

The controversial remarks have ignited a debate over the intertwining of religion and politics, with Anjaneya’s words drawing both support and criticism from various quarters. Siddaramaiah’s office has not yet issued a statement on the matter.

In a shocking development, Bangladesh’s Nobel laureate economist, Dr Muhammad Yunus, has been sentenced to six months in jail by a court on charges of violating labor laws. The court, led by Labour Court judge Sheikh Merina Sultana, deemed the allegations proven and not barred by limitation.

Yunus, 83, present in court, faces non-rigorous imprisonment as the Grameen Telecom chairman, along with three other executives. Each of them has been fined Taka 25,000, with a threat of 10 additional days in jail for non-payment.

Following the verdict, Yunus and his colleagues swiftly applied for bail, which the judge granted for one month upon a Taka 5,000 bond. They have the option to appeal in the High Court.

Yunus, renowned for his microfinance initiatives and Nobel Peace Prize-winning anti-poverty campaign in 2006, faced accusations of labor law violation for not establishing a workers’ welfare fund in Grameen Telecom. The verdict is met with claims of being “politically motivated” by Yunus’s supporters, amidst a prolonged dispute with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government since 2008.

Watch: India Initiates 2024 with PSLV-C58 Successfully Launching XPoSat into Orbit

0

Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh – January 1, 2024: In a historic start to the year, India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C58 (PSLV-C58) marked the beginning of 2024 with a flawless launch, lifting off from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC). The PSLV-C58 carried the nation’s X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) along with 10 other experimental payloads.

The 44.4-meter tall PSLV-C58, with a lift-off mass of 260 tons, ignited its engines at 9:10 a.m., creating a stunning spectacle as it ascended into the sky. The launch, witnessed by a gathering at the viewing gallery, was accompanied by thunderous applause, symbolizing a moment of pride.

This mission holds a unique significance as it marks the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) first space endeavor on January 1. Approximately 21 minutes into its flight, the rocket is set to position XPoSat into orbit at an altitude of around 650 km.

Following this, the rocket’s fourth stage will undergo two restarts, adjusting the orbit to a 350 km circular orbit for the execution of the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-3 (POEM-3) experiment. This experiment, featuring 10 identified payloads provided by ISRO and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), includes a diverse range of experiments.

The PSLV, known for its versatility, comes in various configurations such as Standard, Core Alone, XL, DL, and QL, with the choice of strap-on boosters depending on payload requirements.

XPoSat, a dedicated scientific satellite, is equipped for space-based polarization measurements of X-ray emissions from celestial sources. It features two key payloads: POLIX (Polarimeter Instrument in X-rays) by the Raman Research Institute and XSPECT (X-ray Spectroscopy and Timing) by the Space Astronomy Group of the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC).

ISRO outlined the three primary objectives of XPoSat, including measuring X-ray polarization, conducting long-term spectral and temporal studies of cosmic X-ray sources, and performing polarization and spectroscopic measurements in a common energy band.

Once in a 650 km orbit, the rocket’s fourth stage will be lowered to a 350 km orbit, paving the way for future atmospheric re-entry experiments. The PS4 stage will be passivated, and control will be transferred to the POEM Avionics, a 3-axis stabilized orbital platform designed for experiments to space qualify systems with innovative concepts.

The 10 payloads accompanying XPoSat originate from various institutions and private entities, including TakeMe2Space, LBS Institute Technology for Women, K J Somaiya Institute of Technology, Inspecity Space Labs Private Ltd, Dhruva Space Private Ltd, and Bellatrix Aerospace Private Ltd.

India’s successful launch of XPoSat and its companion payloads on New Year’s Day sets the stage for a promising year in space exploration and scientific research.
