In a spectacular culinary celebration, Swiggy witnessed an extraordinary surge in biryani orders during New Year’s Eve, with a staggering 4.8 lakh biryanis being ordered on the platform. Sources within the food delivery giant revealed that the peak demand saw a remarkable 1,244 units of the delectable dish being ordered every minute.

Hyderabad emerged as the biryani capital, contributing to nearly one in every four biryani orders placed on Swiggy. Simultaneously, Swiggy Instamart, the platform for groceries and home essentials, set a new benchmark by processing 1.6 times more orders per minute compared to its previous record during the 2023 Cricket World Cup final on November 19.

As the evening unfolded, both Swiggy’s food delivery and Instamart services exceeded the highs of the previous year. Last year, during the same period, Swiggy delivered an impressive 3.50 lakh biryani orders and dispatched over 2.5 lakh pizzas nationwide.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Food Marketplace at Swiggy, expressed his delight, stating, “New Year’s Eve ’24 broke all records across Swiggy Food and Instamart! With the team at the stroke of midnight – could not be happier.”

In an amusing revelation, the Swiggy app shared that almost a million users were active in the last hour of the year, surpassing the number of individuals likely to join gyms starting the following day. The app also reported that over a million people ordered food for others, adding a heartwarming touch to the festive statistics.

In a separate post at 9:24 PM on Sunday, Swiggy Instamart disclosed an interesting trend, noting that orders for condoms peaked at 1,722 condoms per hour in the morning, providing a quirky insight into the diverse demands on New Year’s Eve.
