Jaipur: In a defiant statement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and declared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts will prove futile in disrupting the Congress government’s hold in the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections.

Addressing a rally in Bharatpur district, Kharge stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi can try as much as he wants, the Congress will retain its government in Rajasthan.”

Kharge did not mince words in targeting the BJP, accusing them of favoring the wealthy at the expense of the impoverished. “The BJP works towards making the rich richer and the poor poorer. They always work to benefit their friends,” he emphasized at the rally.

The Congress chief lashed out at the BJP for allegedly waiving “loans worth Rs 15 lakh crore of rich people” and criticized the introduction of the Agniveer scheme.

Moreover, Kharge questioned PM Modi’s commitment to Dalits, highlighting the controversial candidacy of Girraj Malinga, who, according to Kharge, was denied a Congress ticket due to his involvement in assaulting a Dalit engineer.

“Modi, who says he is a messiah of Dalits and keeps crying, saying ‘I am poor and keep fighting for them,’ gave a ticket to Girraj Malinga, who was refused a ticket by us for thrashing Valmiki,” Kharge remarked.

Kharge’s statements came in response to Prime Minister Modi’s criticisms of the Congress government in Rajasthan earlier in the day, where he accused them of alleged atrocities against women and Dalits during a poll rally in Bharatpur. The political sparring sets the stage for a fiercely contested electoral battle in the state.
