In a scathing critique on Sunday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a blistering attack on the Narendra Modi government, decrying the spiraling onion prices that have once again left consumers grappling with soaring costs. Kharge contends that the forthcoming state elections will elucidate the reasons behind this price surge, asserting that the BJP’s defeat is the key to unraveling the onion price enigma.

Kharge’s indictment comes in the wake of onion prices soaring to a staggering Rs 65-80 per kilogram in the retail markets of the national capital, attributable to a dip in supply.

Taking to social media platform X, Kharge expressed his deep concern in Hindi, highlighting the prolonged ordeal of the public over the past nine-and-a-half years of BJP rule, marked by relentless inflation. “Each time the issue of inflation surfaces,” Kharge lamented, “the Modi government dismisses it with mockery and flippant statements such as ‘Inflation is not visible,’ ‘I don’t consume onions,’ or ‘Our situation is better than other nations.'”

The Congress leader posed the burning question, “Why are onions exorbitant once more?” and asserted, “The people in the five states will unveil this mystery by defeating the BJP!”

The Congress party, on its part, alleged on Saturday that the Modi government has been ineffective in taming the rising prices and affirmed that the electorate’s exasperation with inflation will manifest clearly in the forthcoming elections.

These crucial elections are slated to occur in five states: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram, with the results set to be announced on December 3. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
