
Hazaribag/Dhanbad, Heart-wrenching incidents marred the post-Karam Puja celebrations in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag and Dhanbad districts as three children tragically drowned, and two remain missing during immersion rituals, according to local police reports.
In Hazaribag district, a group of six young girls faced a horrifying ordeal when they were swept away by the powerful currents of the Barakar river during immersion rituals around 8:30 am. This heart-wrenching event unfolded in Obra village within the jurisdiction of Chouparan police station. While three girls were promptly rescued by local fishermen, the fate of the remaining three hangs in the balance as search efforts continue.
The life claimed by this tragic incident was that of Divya Kumar, the daughter of Sikander Yadav. Her lifeless body was retrieved, and it has been sent to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination, as confirmed by Barhi’s Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nazir Akhtar.
Meanwhile, in Dhanbad, another sorrowful episode unfolded as two children lost their lives in the waters of the Jamunia dam. They were immersing branches of the Karam tree, revered during the festival that commemorates a bountiful harvest.
The unfortunate victims were identified as Saloni Kumari (14), the daughter of Vineswaer Chouhan, and Devraj Kumar (10), the son of Babloo Turi. Both hailed from Matigarha Colony. Tragedy struck at approximately 6:00 am when seven children from the colony gathered at the reservoir to perform the Karam Puja immersion. Regrettably, two of them lost their lives while bathing.
The bodies of Saloni Kumari and Devraj Kumar have been transferred to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem examination.
