New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 73rd birthday in a unique and public-spirited manner by taking a ride on the Delhi Metro on Sunday. Passengers sharing the coach with the Prime Minister joined in the celebration, applauding and singing “Happy Birthday Modi ji,” while capturing memorable selfies with him.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the expansion of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line, extending it from Dwarka Sector 21 to the newly-constructed ‘Yashobhoomi’ Dwarka Sector 25 metro station. During this momentous occasion, the Prime Minister embarked on a journey aboard the Airport Express Line from Dhaula Kuan to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.

Delhi Metro officials highlighted that the new Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station is an underground facility that will offer seamless connectivity to vital city landmarks, including Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport and the New Delhi Railway station.

The official stated, “Passenger operations on this new extension will commence from 3 p.m. onwards on Sunday. With the addition of this section, the total length of the Airport Express Line from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector – 25 will become 24.9 kilometers.”

The Airport Express Line now boasts seven Metro stations: New Delhi (interchange with Yellow Line), Shivaji Stadium, DhaulaKuan, Delhi Aerocity, Airport (T-3), Dwarka Sector 21 (interchange with Blue Line), and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials further revealed that a total of eight trains, each comprising six coaches, will be available on the entire Dwarka Sector 21 to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 metro section on the Airport Express Line corridor. The trains will operate at a frequency of 10 minutes on this section.

Furthermore, the DMRC plans to increase the operational speed of metro trains on the Airport Express Line, elevating it from 90 kmph to an impressive 120 kmph. This enhancement is set to significantly reduce the journey time from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25, making it a swift and efficient commuting option.
