Kollam, – Goa Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai has made a resolute statement, denouncing Nathuram Vinayak Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, as a “curse” upon the nation. Governor Pillai, who formerly led the Kerala unit of the BJP, expressed these sentiments during the release of the fourth edition of “Gandhi vs Godse,” a book authored by advocate Veliyam Rajiv.
During his address in Kollam, Governor Pillai emphasized the gravity of Godse’s actions, asserting that the assassination of Gandhiji should never have occurred, regardless of the motivations behind it. He expressed his conviction that Gandhian ideology continues to serve as a guiding beacon for humanity, while characterizing Godse as a dark stain on the nation’s history.
Governor Pillai urged leaders to foster a society guided by thoughtful principles rather than impulsive emotions. He lauded Mahatma Gandhi as a role model for political activists who steadfastly adhered to their principles. He noted that even when faced with allegations of corruption against his own son, Gandhiji was willing to publicly denounce him, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his values.
Reflecting on the findings of the Justice Kapoor Commission, which investigated the conspiracy behind Gandhi’s assassination, Governor Pillai underscored that the commission had absolved the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of any involvement. However, he expressed dismay over the fact that all copies of the Kapoor commission’s report were destroyed in a democratic nation, effectively erasing a painful truth from history. He lamented this act as a stark example of how the democratic system could bury uncomfortable truths.
Governor Pillai’s remarks underscore the ongoing significance of Gandhi’s principles and the need to confront the past while upholding democratic values.
