In an unsettling incident, a teacher has been formally charged for reportedly making derogatory remarks targeting a specific community within the confines of a classroom in Gandhi Nagar, East Delhi. The incident, which occurred last week, has sparked both concern and investigation.
A senior police official shared, “The incident took place last week. We received a complaint and registered a case against the teacher. The investigation into the matter is underway.” The nature of the remarks and the potential consequences of such behavior are being thoroughly examined.
Responding to this matter, Anil Kumar Bajpai, MLA of Gandhi Nagar, expressed his strong disapproval. He emphasized the core duty of educators, stating, “This is absolutely wrong. The responsibility of a teacher is to give good education to the children. The teacher should not pass derogatory comments against any religious or holy place. Such people should be arrested.
This incident comes in the wake of a similar occurrence in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where a viral video depicted a school teacher encouraging her students to physically harm a boy from a minority community. The teacher, Tripta Tyagi, also allegedly made objectionable remarks directed at the community.
In the Muzaffarnagar case, the boy’s family lodged a complaint, leading to the booking of Tripta Tyagi under IPC Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), both categorized as non-cognizable offenses. Notably, such offenses are bailable and do not result in immediate arrest; they necessitate a warrant for further action.
As both these incidents raise concerns over the conduct of educators and the well-being of students within the classroom environment, authorities are focusing on appropriate measures to address such behavior and ensure a safe and inclusive learning atmosphere.
